Nursing Student Dies in auto accident

Published

it was a sad week....

Leslie Braun, a 23 year old nursing student in her 4th and final year at the University of Manitoba was killed in a taffic accident when her vehicle was hit head on by a motorist trying to pass on an undivided hwy.

Leslie will be missed by all Nursing students, Nurses, and medical staff.

I am so sorry. Were you a classmate of hers? What a tragedy. My thoughts and prayers to all her friends and family.

WOW such sad news. I remember we lost a student in the class ahead of me one week before graduating. they graduated her posthumously. it was SO SAD and DEPRESSING esp for the class ahead of me.

I am truly saddened to hear this news. Truly sorry.

My sister attends U of M (Education student). The undivided highways are a major issue both in Manitoba and in Northwestern Ontario. There is divided highway from a certain point just inside the Manitoba side of the Ontario/Manitoba border but from the border to well beyond Thunder Bay it is undivided and a nightmare for anyone without a lot of experience on it. My little sister was nearly killed driving home to Ontario from University last winter (some idiot driving too fast on black ice ended up on two tires and nearly creamed her, he wrecked missing her by inches, she called the ambulance and police). The problem is people drive too fast for the highway conditions and without the divided highway, there is NO ROOM FOR ERRORS ON THESE HIGHWAYS. A small skid turns into a devastating accident. I am so sorry about that nursing student. I am assuming it was a case of someone who was in too big a hurry to get somewhere. What most people don't realize is that on a four hour trip, their recklessness might save them ten to fifteen minutes. When I am driving these highways, I often shake my head ten times a trip at the careless drivers who don't realize that the ten minutes they are trying to save may cost someone else a lifetime. Again, my condolensces to the family and her friends. A tragedy that should not have happened.

I'm so sorry to hear that..

If she was a classmate of yours then I can totally sympathize with you. We lost one of our classmates suddenly last semester, and it has been very hard on everyone. Our pinning is tonight and we are have a memorial and a special song for her, plus we are giving her husband and mother a pin for her. Cause she would have definately have been with us tonight.. She WILL be with us but in a different way.

Again I am sorry.

Yes this was very sad. I'm a fellow Winnipegger as well -- U of M, class of 98. I saw her picture in the newspaper and she looked like such a sweet girl. And so close to finishing her degree too. She was apparently driving to write one of her exams when she was hit.

I apologize, I accidentally entered the students name incorrect,

Kirsten Braun was the name of the Nursing student that was killed in the highway accident, not Leslie Braun, I am so sorry for the typo.
