Nursing side jobs?

Nurses General Nursing

I'm a semi-new nurse currently working at a hospital. I need to look for a second nursing job so I can really get a good start paying back all my loans. Does anyone have any recommendations/advice, websites, or agencies you can share? I'm new to this field so I'm not sure where or what types of jobs are really out there.

I'm looking for a job that isn't very demanding (not as much as a hospital, anyway), something with flexible hours, and doesn't involve kids (ex. not substitute school nurse.)

Specializes in ICU, Postpartum, Onc, PACU.

Plastic surgery is a good field. If you work with a good one there won't be any medically unstable pts and the pay is usually only about $10 less an hour than the hospital. Or you could just do OT at your current job or float to another floor. You've ruled out a lot of options with your specifications, but I'm sure you'll find something.

If overtime pays well (time and a half here), once in a while overtime shifts where you work now will bring in some extra money.

You can look at a per diem job elsewhere, but compare the wages to an overtime shift at your current job to see which is higher. A per diem job will come with its own requirements such at holiday, weekend and mandatory meeting requirements.

I really cannot think of any less-demanding, more flexible side jobs in nursing that would pay well. You did mention that paying off loans was your main motivation.

I have worked prn in endoscopy before & it was pretty flexible. I could leave early if our cases were done. Just a rotating Saturday call, no other call or holidays.

Specializes in Home Health,Dialysis, MDS, School Nurse.

I work Home Health in the summer when I'm off. Works out well because that is the time they are trying to cover vacations, etc.

Specializes in CMSRN, hospice.

It sounds maybe more involved than you are looking for, but oh my God, this Forensic Nurse Examiner class I'm doing is amazing and there are on call jobs for this.
