Working 12's with small children
If only life questions were like nclex questions, lol! I've considered requesting to go prn, it's better than just up and leaving.

Working 12's with small children
Thanks everyone! I'm currently doing a summer day program for the kids, so the difficulty lies in the two weeknights and the weekends I'm working. I appreciate the feedback from people who've been there. I think moving forward my strategy will be to utilize family more. It's hard for me to ask for help sometimes:) It's also good to remember my relationship with my family will outlast this situation. Also, once I get about a year of experience at this job, it may open up more options that fit us better.

Working 12's with small children
I recently started a new job, 2 12's a week, days. My husband works 40+ hours and is in school. We have two boys 5 & 4. My husband is having a really hard time watching the boys two evenings a week & every third weekend. Any ideas on how to make it suck less? This is my first 12-hour job since having kids. The job is a great opportunity, and I hate to just walk away from it.

Nursing side jobs?
I have worked prn in endoscopy before & it was pretty flexible. I could leave early if our cases were done. Just a rotating Saturday call, no other call or holidays.

Did Christian Nursing Schools teach you anything special?
I attended a Christian nursing school. Nobody pushed any strange beliefs on us. Definitely no blaming people. In fact, I remember my psych teacher adamantly saying it is always the rapist's fault, not the victim's. I think the main difference in a Christian education is that they assume you are a believer and that you are in nursing school because you feel it is God's plan for you. Therefore, they see nursing as a calling and an opportunity to share the gospel & minister to others. In fact, they would often share old-school tidbits in case we ended up serving in a third-world country.

a step forward?
I currently work in endoscopy recovery. I enjoy it for the most part, but on crazy days it feels like an assembly line. I feel pressured to get them out faster than I would like, because more patients will be coming out. Sometimes all bays are full with more patients in overflow, and they just keep rolling out. My question is: would pacu be better or just more of the same? I have heard from the crna's that pacu has better staffing ratios. Pacu nurses, what happens when your patient takes longer to recover than expected? Do you still get the next patient?
