Experts say state nursing shortage will get worse
(AP, June 4, 2006 5:50 PM) _ The nursing shortage in Connecticut isn't expected to get better anytime soon.
Experts say that in four years, the state will be short about 11,000 registered nurses. That means most hospitals could be down by more than 200 nurses. By 2020, the deficit could more than double.
That's according to a report today by the Record-Journal of Meriden.
Nationally, the state ranks next to last, just ahead of Alaska, in educating new nurses. Over the past two years, Connecticut's 18 nursing schools turned away more than two-(T)-thousand qualified applicants because of a shortage of instructors. The more lucrative jobs for nursing experts are in medical centers and hospitals and schools.
A statewide conference to examine the shortage and look for solutions is planned for September. The conference sponsor, the Wallingford-based Connecticut League for Nursing, says it will invite not just hospital leaders but lawmakers and members of the business community, as well.

I'm doing a presentation for one of my classes for school on the nursing shortage. I was wondering if anyone knew of any articles, websites or journals that I could use for my presentation. The presentation is to be presented on July 19th, so any information you guys have I'd be thrilled with the help! Thank you...
