Nursing schools in dallas / Ft Worhth

TCC, Northlake, El Centro , Brookheaven, and Weatherford .....Nursing programs I am looking into ...Does anyone have any info they would share about the programs , instructors , clinicals, reputation or how hard they are to get into ....I do know that TCC is hard to get into but other than that I dont know anything about the program . I still have to take A & P and college math but after that I am finished ! Any information / help at all would be great and thanks in advance !

I am a TCC graduate (May 09), and of course my opinion is that TCC is the best school on your list. TCC has a GREAT reputation in the metroplex, I had a wonderful experience and feel very prepared having just finished my first week and a half orientation at my new job. I would NOT recommend Weatherford, though. just heard lots of not so good things..I had a professor at TCC that actually helped start the Weatherford program and she left after it got kinda rocky. She never came out and said it, but she basically thought the program was bad (and she was my BEST and most experienced instructor, very reputable). As for the others, I cannot really say. My mom is an amazing nurse with 25 years of experience and URGED me to go to TCC. she always precepted students and said over and over again that TCC students were exceptional and looked highly upon. In the Fort Worth area, your best bet is TCC. hope that helps!

Hello - I am currently a Weatherford College ADN student and looking forward to starting my second semester this fall. I have absolutely nothing but great things to say about the program! They had a rocky past but that was a long time ago. The current director has been in place for 5 years and the program is running very smoothly and successfully. For the last 2 years, they have had a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX. My suggestion is to look into all the application criteria, find a school that you want to go, and then work towards acceptance. I know from my application experience that the DFW nursing schools all have slightly different acceptance policies. By that, I mean that they base your acceptance differently. For example, TCC ranks by GPA, then by test scores, etc. Where as, Weatherford College allots points for certain categories (i.e. points for certain GPA, points for test scores, points for pre-req's, etc) and your total points is where you compete in line against the pool of applicants. So while I am quite partial to my school, I would have to suggest that you look into each one and then work toward their criteria. But to say a few wonderful things about WC's program: the professors LOVE what they do - they sacrifice their own time & energy to benefit the student's education, the director is consistently concerned about meeting students' desires to continue improving the program, and the classes tend to be smaller, which in turn, has created a great camaraderie among my fellow students.

In reference to your question regarding the online A&P II class, I had this class the old school lecture/lab way but I have to confess that it demanded so much learning on my part that, in fact, it only benefited me once I started the ADN program. I am not familiar with how the online class works, but I would have to say, take every advantage and opportunity that you have to learn the information now, as it will only benefit you in the future.

Thanks for the update on Weatherford, Its good to hear something positive about the school. I have looked into the pre-reqs for a couple of schools. If you dont mind can you tell me where your school does their clinicals and how the class / clinical schedule is. I will be going into the bridge program at whatever school I end up applying to but for now I will be taking my sciences. Thank you again for all your information !

I am currently taking prerequisites @ TCC with a hopeful entrance around Spring or Fall 2011.

:tku: And good luck !! I am still not sure where I am going to apply for the bridge program ( prob a couple of schools ) but I am going to take prereqs from TCC . Do you have any heads up on some good prof ??? My daughter goes there but has not started any classes for nursing as of yet but had taken all the Govt. English, Speech ..Etc ....

Weatherford has really stepped it up in past years. Their NCLEX pass rate for the past 3 years is better than TCC.

Thanks for thar information, do you know what hospitals they use for their clinical sites ?

I was told by Karen Long (Program Administrator) that most of the clinicals are in Ft. Worth Hospitals except for the Psychiatric Clinicals which are held in Wichita Falls. The Wichita Falls Clinical is a two week program and all the students in the class attend at the same time. Sorry, I don't know which hosptals in Ft. Worth. I start the program in August.

Hi - The first semester clinical site is a nursing home. They have 2 different ones that they use so I am not sure which one you would use. We went to Westside Campus of Care this last spring. In the fall, we are going to Plaza in FTW and I believe Baylor All Saints. The director has told us that all the clinical sites would be in FTW with the exception of Mental Health Nursing. This clinical is at the state hospital in Witchita Falls and is 4 days long during a summer semester. The last semester consists of a 96 hour preceptorship which could be at a number of different places. Basically, you let them know what area you are interested in and they assign you a preceptor at a hospital that works in that field. Hope that helps!
