Questions for anyone who went thru Weatherford's ADN program
Hello! I am currently in my second semester in Weatherford's ADN program. I am part of the first spring night/weekend class and we started with 20 students. We have had one student drop this semester & we picked up 4 students that failed and had to redo this semester. To answer your second question, yes. I know of a student in 3rd semester that was not even an alternate and she was called at the last minute to join the class. So it is possible, although this did not happen with my class. If you are referring to the current semester, I do not think they would still call to fill spots, as I am pretty certain that they are full. I hope this answers your questions and let me know if there are any other questions.

Nursing schools in dallas / Ft Worhth
Hi - The first semester clinical site is a nursing home. They have 2 different ones that they use so I am not sure which one you would use. We went to Westside Campus of Care this last spring. In the fall, we are going to Plaza in FTW and I believe Baylor All Saints. The director has told us that all the clinical sites would be in FTW with the exception of Mental Health Nursing. This clinical is at the state hospital in Witchita Falls and is 4 days long during a summer semester. The last semester consists of a 96 hour preceptorship which could be at a number of different places. Basically, you let them know what area you are interested in and they assign you a preceptor at a hospital that works in that field. Hope that helps!

Nursing schools in dallas / Ft Worhth
Hello - I am currently a Weatherford College ADN student and looking forward to starting my second semester this fall. I have absolutely nothing but great things to say about the program! They had a rocky past but that was a long time ago. The current director has been in place for 5 years and the program is running very smoothly and successfully. For the last 2 years, they have had a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX. My suggestion is to look into all the application criteria, find a school that you want to go, and then work towards acceptance. I know from my application experience that the DFW nursing schools all have slightly different acceptance policies. By that, I mean that they base your acceptance differently. For example, TCC ranks by GPA, then by test scores, etc. Where as, Weatherford College allots points for certain categories (i.e. points for certain GPA, points for test scores, points for pre-req's, etc) and your total points is where you compete in line against the pool of applicants. So while I am quite partial to my school, I would have to suggest that you look into each one and then work toward their criteria. But to say a few wonderful things about WC's program: the professors LOVE what they do - they sacrifice their own time & energy to benefit the student's education, the director is consistently concerned about meeting students' desires to continue improving the program, and the classes tend to be smaller, which in turn, has created a great camaraderie among my fellow students. In reference to your question regarding the online A&P II class, I had this class the old school lecture/lab way but I have to confess that it demanded so much learning on my part that, in fact, it only benefited me once I started the ADN program. I am not familiar with how the online class works, but I would have to say, take every advantage and opportunity that you have to learn the information now, as it will only benefit you in the future. Best of luck to you!

The ADN program students wear red scrubs with a black/white patch on left arm. They are actually pretty cute!

LOL! I can tell you are really excited! That's awesome! Let's see...the first semester of clinicals is at a nursing home. This semester we go to Westside Campus of Care in Ft Worth but I think they have another location they use as well. The second semester (Med Surg/Maternity/Pedi) clinicals will be at a hospital. Most of the clinicals are in Fort Worth with the exception of the Mental Health summer semester which is in Wichita Falls for 4 days. My classes are M 1-9:30p, W 1-5, Thurs 1-9:30, Sat 8-3 clinical. I am in the night/weekend class. The day classes start at 8am and go for pretty much the same amount of time. There are 20 people in my class and 3 are guys. The second semester students have a class of 40 and I know they have at least 5 or 6 guys in their class. It definitely makes things more interesting with the guys in class!! lol. The only advice regarding teaching style is to understand that the first semester is mostly trying to get you to 'think like a nurse.' It's definitely different than any other school/classes I have taken before but they will help you adjust. As long as you give the time and effort, you will do fine. I spend the days I am not in school studying and doing clinical work. I would say about 20 hours of work outside of class. Hope this helps! If you think of anything else, let me know and I'll be glad to answer your questions.

Are there any evening or weekend option nursing programs in the DFW? (ADN or BSN)
I am currently a part of Weatherford College's evening/weekend class. This is the first time they have offered the ADN program this way and so far it has been awesome. We attend class M & Th from 1-9:30pm with a 1 hour dinner break, Wed 1-5 and all of our clinical work is on Saturdays. The fall class is during the day M-F but they may offer this program again beginning in January 2010. Let me know if you have any questions. Best of luck!

Weatherford College
Hi! The letters usually go out the day before our spring break...so for you, it should be March 13th. It sounds like you have a pretty good chance with the amount of points you have vs. possible points. Best of luck to you! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Weatherford College
Hi! The first time that I applied the point scale was different. The total possible was 18 points and I had 16. I was an alternate at that time. When I reapplied, I had 23 out of 26 points and was accepted. It is based on the pool of applicants that apply and how you rank among them. I have heard from each semester that a lot of times it will come down to right before the semester starts and they are calling alternates to fill spots. Best of luck to you!

Weatherford College
Hi~ Just thought I would chime in...I am starting the spring 2009 ADN program at Weatherford and thought I would throw some info your way. The required classes are the same as TCC. I took all of my classes at TCC and then applied at Weatherford. Also, the cost of attendance for in-county is approx $4500 and out-of-county is about $6k....not too bad in my opinion. The info on the program isn't available on their website...you will have to have it emailed to you. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. I attended the orientation about a month ago so I may be able to help with your questions. Good Luck!

Is it possible to just get it???
I will be starting NS this spring and I just wanted to say thank you for those of you who posted your thoughts on this thread. As I read through this forum, I become so nervous, so anxious, and so afraid to fail based on all of the current students posts. Most of it describes the burn out, the extreme difficulty, and barely making it. I am in no way underestimating NS and the challenge that lies ahead but I am pleased to see that not every single person has the same experience as most I have found. Thank you for the positive thoughts! :wink2:

How many lost jobs due to nursing school?
I also question whether it is a good idea to work during nursing school. I have a very supportive husband but feel like I should do my part as well. He says that school is my part and to worry about just that. I have decided not to work my first semester and then see how it goes from there. I want to be able to concentrate on school 110% and know that I will succeed. But like everything in life, it's one day at a time!
