Nursing Schools in Central Florida/Orlando Area

Published

Hey everyone,

I am currently attending the University of Florida. This is my third semester working on my pre-nursing classes. So far I have a 3.307 GPA, which is really not that great and I am really nervous about getting into nursing school anywhere! The ideal option is to get in UF and stay in gainesville...but I am trying to be realistic about my chances. I volunteered in the NICU all summer at Florida Hospital and am currently volunteering in the NICU at Shands. Does anyone think I will get in? Or have any idea of my chances?

Unfortuantely, today I called UCF and was informed that if you recieve a C in chemisty they will not even look at your application. I started out as pre-med major at UF and took the higher level chemistry, and ended up with a C, but it doesnt matter that it was a higher level. I can retake the class and try for the B- or higher, but that would mean that I cannot start UCF until Fall 2011, assuming I would get it, which who knows? I am in no way interested in taking a year off either!

Since I may not get in up here, the only other place I am interested in living is the Orlando area. I have a few options that I am already researching: Valencia, Florida Hospital of Health Sciences, Herzing, and Seminole Community College. Any one who is attending these school I would love to hear from you, and know your GPAS if you don't mind :) Also your experiences with applying and getting accepted to these schools.

Thanks!

Not sure what else is in Orlando - the only schools I'm considering are UCF (which I'm fairly ambivalent about) and Remington, which is accelerated BSN only - but I just wanted to say hi. I'm in Gainesville too, graduated from UF in the spring with my BA and now I'm doing all the pre-reqs for an accelerated BSN program.

I need to get in with one of the UF nursing advisors and see what my chances are of getting in here. My UF GPA was a 3.3, but my pre-req GPA will be a 4.0 easily. It's all so complicated.

You might want to try Florida Hospitals Program. They have a lower GPA requirement and entrance 3 times a year. I am currently going to SCC but I have heard that the program is full (only about 80 seats) and you have to have a super high GPA. I may have to switch to Florida Hospital if I don't get in here.

Also the UCF rep was here at my campus the other day and she mentioned UCF nursing program at there Daytona campus was totally different, might be worth looking into.

Good Luck.

There is Hillsborough Community College, University of South Florida, Polk Community College, Florida Southern College, and Keiser.

PCC is very competitive, known to be difficult, but inexpensive. Keiser does not have a good NCLEX pass rate for some branches. Florida Southern College is a private college and pricier than the public facilities. The others, I do not know.

I am also going to SCC, and applied for the Spring 2010 RN program. My GPA is a 3.6, and I am super nervous about getting accepted. I know some people that are looking into Florida Hospital's program, and I will probably apply there if I don't get into SCC. It's so competitive.

Yes, not only competitive but you can only apply once a year, that means if we don't get in we have to wait a whole year to try again. So nerve racking.

I took all my pre reqs and got my AA at SCC. I applied to UCF for their Daytona Beach BSN and got in on my first try WHILE STILL TAKING MY LAST PRE-REQ (A &P II)!!! SCC has crazy enrollment for January as they are really the only good school around that does the evening program and it is the January enrollment. Molly told me last semester that they had 300 applicants for like 80 spots or something crazy. Also, UCF is a straight BSN. 5 semesters and I have my BSN. Can't wait!!! Try them! Florida Hospital of nursing is soooo expensive and have strange pre reqs like 2 religion classes. This would have messed me up as I didn't really have more time to while away in pre req land! Good luck! Kelli

You may want to call Herzing University in Orlando. I just went to their orientation after searching online for Nursing Programs in Orlando I like theirs the best. If you've already taken the pre-req's you'll finish sooner!

Good Luck!
