NURSING SCHOOL ...is... whats the word im looking for

Nursing school is something you have to get the hang of. Also, remember even though it's hard and you feel like you are barely passing, you WILL pass and your success will feel SO good in the end. Hard work pays off.

You really have to get the hang of tests. Have you started doing any NCLEX books yet? If I were you (and I was last year, just starting out) I would start with the NCLEX-PN books that are more geared toward first year nursing students. It's never too early to start studying NCLEX. After you do a system in class, start doing the NCLEX questions in the chapter on that system. You will get the hang of how to answer these questions, and get to the point where you can be successful even at questions you have no idea about.

I'm very fortunate to have an awesome teacher for my first block, I think that's made all the difference. So far I've done pretty well on all my tests, I have two tomorrow so we'll see if that continues. What also helped me out is taking patho last semester. I know it's helpful for some to take it during NS, but we had the same type of questions on our patho tests that we have in nursing school so it got me used to taking those types of tests. I think Phoenixgirl is right, we just have to keep plugging along and before we know it we'll be graduating and posting threads about studying for the NCLEX and finding jobs.

Remember someone weaker, slower, and generally less able has passed before you. You are left with no option, but to show them the stuff you're really made of and graduate.

Hey Mandy!

Long time no talk! Well, you are still muddling along so that is good. Barely passing is passing so no reason to fret. You may have to lower your standards a bit to get by. You can't think you HAVE TO get A's in everything!

How is your new job going? It is in the same field as before, yes? But a different hospital? You are under a lot of stress right now with two big changes. Try to remain calm.:roll I never see anyone at school. I guess I'm a slacker. We are getting ready to do check offs so I will have to go to the lab more. Yucko.

ok i know im not the only one that thinks this, but it really cant be this difficult to pass.... im not a dumbbutt but i kinda feel like it right now....
I dont feel like the instructors (well one in particular) want us to pass.
I study my arss off and im still barely passing....
anyone else feel this way... i wonder if the other instructors in the other blocks are more helpful....

Unfortunately that is the philosphy at your school - been there and done that. I wish I could be more uplifting, BUT, yeah they make it that way so they will have a high NCLEX pass rate at the end of block 4. It is comparable to military boot camp

That is one thing that upset me with G_______! The weeding out process is grueling. You can do it though - I did it. One thing that helped me was to be happy with a C - if it was a B, all the better. BTW, nobody got an A in block 4 fundamentals. In fact, 5 out of 29 flunked block 4.

You will find some instructors that are helpful and want you to succeed. It is the ones that could care less if you fail that leave a bad taste in your mouth. PM me if you need some advice on what instructors are student friendly. I can only advise you for block 3 and 4 though.

Mandy- I hope the rest of your week went better. Just remember that you only have to get through, one block at a time, and it doesn't matter what grades you get, as long as you pass. I know you guys have already lost a lot of students in your program, but remember, you made it through all those pre-req's, so you CAN make it through nursing school.

When do you start clinicals? Are your finals next week? I have a friend at MCC and she has finals next week and then clinicals, just wondering if you're on the same schedule. Is Angie still around?

We just took our second pharm and assess tests and have had oral med check off's.

Just take everything one day at a time. Try to study a little bit every day to keep from cramming right before a test, and time will fly. I can't believe we're almost through Febr. already!!! I'm going to have to go buy my scrubs soon...:roll

Thrashej- I looked around for you on Sat, we actually were in the lab and some blk II students were in there too, I'm sure we'll run into each other soon, we're learning a lot more skills lately and I need some serious practice!! I tried to get my dh to volunteer to help out, since I just learned foley, but he wanted nothing to do with it, geez, he's not being very supportive!! (JK) :chuckle
