I used a Littman. It was about 75$, but people useda ll kinds from 20.00 to 200.00, for school buy what you can and worry about a real nice one when you get out and can afford it. Good luck
I use a Littmann as well (cardiology III), and I paid $100 for it on amazon.com. I love it! For my first semester, I used a Littmann cheaper version, and I used that in the beginning because I heard my mother's voice in my head saying, "Don't get a good stethoscope a leave it in some nursing home somewhere!". So when I bring my fancy steth I never let it out of my site. BE careful! Some of those nurses will ask to use it and you will have to follow them around for fear of it being stolen.
I just purchased a Littmann also...it was about $75. But, this is my final year in nursing school and at first I had just purchased the one for about $20 in the school bookstore and I regretted it all last semester. I couldn't hear heart and lung sounds as well as my classmates with Littmanns...so, here I am having to buy again.
My advice - go for the best you can (budgetwise) or it will just cost you more later when you are jealous of the other students!

What brand of stethoscope did you all use for Nursing School? I am starting in the spring and I need some advice. Thanks
sprague is like $20, start off with something reasonable because sure as anything you will lose it, or someone will take it...one of the girls at my hospital had one of the cardiac littman stethescopes that her parents bought for her upon graduation, it was engraved and everything, and it was still stolen...

The best is not necessarily the best. Cardiocare steths are about $30.00. They have a shield inside that eliminates outside noises and amplifies heart and lung sounds. I have even been able to pick-up peripheral pulse sounds that we could not hear with three different scopes. The cardiologist group that I worked for bought them for their whole practice after borrowing mine. They have a website that you can read about them. Just goggle Cardiocare.

I have a Littman II...its so wonderful! Before I entered NS I bought a Medical Prestige...Didnt like it AT ALL!....Now I have the Littman and it does really make a difference...and it just sits better around your neck!!! One piece of advice...get your name put on it...steths have a remarkable way of disapearring!
I had a cheapie all through school and when I got my first job I tried out my coworker's stethescopes to see what I liked. I found that almost everybody I work with uses a Littman Cardiologoy III. If you dont want to spend a lot now, get a cheapie and then ask to test out other people's. (Most people dont mind as long as you clean the earpieces). I do wish I would have used a Littman from the beginning-I think they are fantastic. But everyone is different. And as I am sure more people will tell you-guard it with your life, they seem to get legs and walk off in many hospitals.
