Nursing School 1st Semester books question

I'm starting my 1st semester in nursing school January 10th and I just got my book list. I have been searching online for the best deals. I have a question on one of the books:

I have a Palm PDA and I am planning getting all the reference books I can (not main textbooks though) for my PDA to save book lugging energy in the future (and save my back). Anyway one of the books is in PDA format but only int he 10th edition not in the 11th edition like recommended.

The book is: Nursing Diagnosis-Application to Clinical Practive by Carpenito

(ISBN: 078176131X)

I am just curious if there is that big of difference b/w the 10th Ed. and the 11th Ed. If there isnt, would getting the 10th Ed. on PDA format be better then getting the 11th Ed. in book form?

Opinions, advice, anything.

Also any good places I may not know of for cheap nursing books (Ive already looked at Amazon, Abebooks, and Ebay).

Hello I have the 11th edition of Carpenito, but have never seen the 10th. I have a PDA but I don't have the PDA version of the Carpenito 10th edition. I use my book for my care plans etc. I have Taber's which has ND contained in it if I need them. I have gotten quite a few books from eBay, as well as from www.discountmedicalbooks.com Also if you have any of the major bookstores close to you like Borders, B&N sign up for email coupons I just saved 25% on another care plan resource. There are limitations to them but to save anything nowadays is great! Good luck!

I used Carpenito's book in my BSN program and it is excellent. You will probably find that you don't have to lug many books to school - its taking notes that is important. If I were you - I would get the book, versus the PDA program for this resource. Good luck and congrats on starting nursing school.

good idea on getting the pda programs. Typically the changes from edition to edition are so miniscule. I've got classmates who are using books more than one edition old and find that the instructors teach more from the older books or that they're not missing anything huge by having the much older editions. I hope that helps. :-)

And as a side note: I almost didn't use my clinical book at ALL through the 3 semesters of nursing I've had so far. I hate how they put so many books on the required list that you don't even use. The last 3 semesters, I've paid more for books than I have tuition..... I finally wised up to amazon.com because you can get used books in the same edition and often in like-new conditions where they started nursing and withdrew or failed or changed their mind or it was a wasted book. I got a $90 psych nursing book for $25 at amazon - and it came to me brand new.

I recommend that you invest in a book bag with wheels. The handle collapses and the bag will fit very comfortably at your feet. You can get one for as little as $29 and probably even cheaper. The books are heavy, you'll want to include some supplemental texts to haul around as well as the three-ring notebooks you will generate on your own. Do your back a favor.
