Nursing school requires projects, writing, research, speech???

Published

I want to be a nurse and the people who are able to get in have almost a 4.0 Gpa and score 90-95% on the TEAS Test!!! Those are the only ones who are accepted into nursing school for California state university sacramento...

I dont know anything on the TEAS test and i suck at speech, writing, research, projects..

Right now i can only do as good as a 6-7th grader on that stuff..

Im 16 right now and is there any of that stuff in nursing school?

Is the intensive writing courses hard? What classes should i take to prepare

Hi... I'm a current nursing student. I don't really know anything about the TEAS, as my school didn't require it. But as far as research, writing papers, speeches and doing projects go... yeah, you will get those in nursing school. I'm in an LPN program and have only started on September 11th, but we've already had one 20 minute group presentation, and 2 essay, research projects and we have had two take home tests....

So yes, you are going to need to know how to research information, write it out or prepare a presentation. Usually each school has a specific writing format that you need to know as well, but I'm not sure what yours would be... for us it is APA format.

The best advice I would give is to take some writing courses/english courses as well as some sciences, (biology/chemistry) and any health related courses available to you. Make sure you have all the necessary courses to get into the college/university of your choice.

Good luck!

Thats the point of being in school. To Learn!!! We get caught up on the grades, but the ultimate idea of being in school, no matter what level you are, is to learn. So starting from now on, make that your priority- LEARN. Not trying to be snarky here at all. Whenever I don't do well at something, I don't look at it as I suck at it. I look at it as these are the areas I need to work on and I go to work to improve in that area. If you think you are lacking in certain areas, seek help. Is there a guidance counselor at school you can speak to, or your parents about tutoring? I wouldn't worry about the TEAS right now. You have lots of time. Just focus on learning right now so you can get better in the areas you are lacking.

At 16, this stuff would have really scared me too. Keep working hard in the classes you are taking now, and you will improve. Don't let nursing school intimidate you if it's what you really want to do.
