Nursing School Material/Equipment Must Haves?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hello All You Wonderful People :)

Thank you so much for all the advice all of you have given me and passed on to others. You all have definitely helped gear me in the right direction. I once again call upon you all for help once again.

I'm working hard this year to save money and buy material/books/equipment for Nursing School in September. I know I'm going to be quitting at one of my jobs and cutting my hours at another so I will not have the extra income. I wanted to buy must have materials and equipment now before that happens.

Are there any supplemental books, study guides, etc... that are worth getting?

Any expensive equipment like a stethoscope I should be buying? I was given one already by a friend. Should I buy another one?

I would appreciate any recommendations. I want to make sure to invest in things that will definitely come in handy during Nursing School.

Much Love to Everyone!!!

In regards to clinical, a super cheap stethoscope, pens, possibly scissors, clip board, and a medication pocket guide should do. All that got me through nursing school. FYI, save that expensive stethoscope you may have for when you are working as a nurse. All you need is a cheap one to listen to the LS and a cheap one should do. Wouldn't want to lose that expensive one either. If you are looking to pick up extra supplemental/resource nursing books, I would recommend buying the books your nursing program recommends instead of ones that we would recommend here. If you teachers use those, they may reference to the recommended books and you may have a hard to locating information with "outside" books. I got away with whatever I mentioned above and the mandatory textbooks for the class. I did not need/use any supplemental/resource books, I thought it was a waste of money (and it would have been).

Thanks for the advice! I will make sure to save my money!

Hey! I am starting nursing school in January. My books are crazy expensive so I'm trying to save money where I can. However, I have a cheapo stethoscope that I bought when I went through CNA training and I've used it three or four times and it's broken. So, try not to go so cheap.

Oh yeah for sure. A friend of mine gave me one of Littmann as a gift for Nursing School next year so I think I'm good on that end for now. I still might get another one because I wouldn't want to lose it. Congrats on starting Nursing School!

We needed a stethoscope (They recommended the Littmann classic IISE, it's what they sold at the bookstore on campus but the VA bought me a Cardiology IV), a pen light, bandage scissors, solid black or white waterproof shoes without mesh, a laptop (we take tests on our computer proctored in class, a lot of the courses are hybrid with an online component, and we chart on our laptops after sims), and like $2,000 in books
