you have to make time to take care of yourself. i think you already know where your "down fall" has been-- unhealthy eating habits, not exercising, fatigue. just resolve your self to make the changes that you already know you need to make. change your diet by making the best choice for what you have offered-just because you are at a fast food restaurant does not mean you have to order a hamburger, fries and coke(not that you do- just saying), start working out-- even if you are "too tired": you would be amazed at how exercise can energize you. if i do not want to go to the gym, i do it anyway with this understanding- i tell myself that if i exercise 10 minutes and do not want to stay, then i can leave. 9 out of 10 times-- i stay and finish my complete workout. staying in the habit is very important for me. if possible get a workout buddy. and try to get enough sleep at night. don't let unnecessary activities rob you of rest-- such as tv. do what has to be done and then go to bed! i wish you the best and i know you can do it!!!
I hear ya! I'll graduate in May and I've gained 25-30 since beginning school. It's the stress that gets me. I'm not horridly overweight, but I am not model material. One of my instructors actually told me once that I needed to go to Jenny Craig! I told him he needed to see a doctor about getting his attitude cured. Ridiculous. Oh well, only a couple more months. Then I plan on getting back in my routine.

Under "Health and Stress Management 101" there is a section called "Healthier Living". There are a lot of nurses who visit that forum for support and ideas. Try us out! :)
I gained weight in NS, too, unfortunately and am working right now to remedy that situation--unfortunately, losing weight is never as much fun as gaining it .
you can't say "nursing school" made you fat. it's the unhealthy eating and no exercise. that's like saying McDonald's "made" you fat, when in fact it hardly stuffed it's food down your throat.
I recommend weight watchers. Perfect balance of teaching you the right amounts of different food and how much you'd need to exercise to burn it off
I understand! I start my second semester of nursing school next week, and already I cannot fit into my "cute" jeans!! So today, I joined the gym and vowed that my body is just as important as my mind. My hope is that I will be stronger, have more energy, be happier, and feel better about myself. Good luck to you all!

The combination of extreme stress, fast food, no time to work out, and being fatigued all the time has made me put on 32 pounds in 1.5 years!!! I am graduating in May and I don't want to be jiggling in my robes. Does anyone else want to start an online weight loss group? How do you stay healthy? Any quick and easy (and healthy) things you can take with you on the unit? Any supplements? Any advice would be appreciated!
