Hello,
So I started in psychology (I am not telling how many years I did it) and then decide it to change into nursing. I do not have all my prerequisite from high school to get in a nursing school. My mother would like me to go to college for a year to able to get them and raise my marks (Won't explain how come). I was wondering if there is anyone that knows a nursing school in Canada that offer the program. I meant in the other provinces in Canada (except Quebec please)? Also if you can tell me the average need to be accepted into the program has well. Also tell me if the school is a small one so I can see what would be the chances that I get accepted. I hear some small school, there is a big chance to get in (not sure about it and depending which one has well).
Thank you guys. This will get me out of my nerves for school and go forward for my dreams has well. Thanks again

Acceptance to the degree (RN) and diploma (LPN) programmes is based on marks and the requirements are high.
You might find it easier to get into small town programmes BUT and it's a big BUT people know this and are moving to do it. So there really is no advantage.
It used to be easier to be accepted into Red Deer than either Edmonton or Calgary but it's changed. It's probably the same in Ontario.
There is just no easy way in.
Why do you want to pursue nursing? Where did you did you finish high school?

I found the requirements for RPN and RN VERY high in the GTA area (where I live).
I know many people who couldnt get in after 4-5 tries for the RPN.
For RN, many BioMed university graduates are also moving into the RN schooling, so you have a LOT of competition in that regard. Because of this, many go to become RPNs to see if they enjoy nursing, and then bridge to RN.
Every program here for nursing is Oversubscribed. I know for Sept, we had hundreds of people applying, and only (I think off the top of my head) 37-50 spots open.
What I did is this: I finished university, got my degree with good marks, but not related to Nursing AT ALL. I was lucky I adored Bio in school and did have a great mark for it there, but the rest I didnt do - instead I went to the Adult learning school, which has 2 courses a semester. Each course was 6-7 weeks long, so it took no time at all to complete 3 courses. I took University level, thus it gives you an extra 10%. So if you end up with high marks, its easy to get 95-100% for acceptance. If you got an 85 in Math U, your mark would be boosted to a 95 in college acceptance.
I would advise that route. It only cost me 20 bucks for 3 courses, and 100$ deposit (which you get back at the end of your courses. Its just money to ensure you bring your books back).
3 Months, and 20 bucks - and I got in.
I personally dont find value in taking the 1 year science program in College. The money you must spend alone is insane, and the time it takes to complete is also insane considering you can finish all of the requirements in 3 months VS 8 Months.

Most schools are competitive in Ontario, There is no way of avoiding the prerequiste courses, you need to do them through adult learning/ILC or a 1 year pre-health program. Also, getting the mininum required course average is not a guarenteed acceptance because nursing is very competitive.
Thanks for your reply, I took the general arts and science program where they gave me the rest of my prerequisite. I got accepted into nursing (RN). Still waiting to see where else I get in before deciding where I am going for sure.
