  1. Just though of letting people know if they want to become RN after. Other then that, you can stay has a RPN. I do not think they need to bridge over. That is mostly in Ontario where RN are being layoff. Other provinces (not sure which one) are hiring.
  2. I don't understand what are you talking about. Some people drop out the program for financials reason or medical leave.
  3. Algonquin college would accept your U level course. Even if you did them in grade 12. They said either your grade 11 or 12 marks. In that case it would be high enough. For the HPAT test if I remember clearing that there is some example question, look it up and practice it. It won't be hard if you practice. They would ask you some biology, chemistry, english, maths question in it. Look more in details: The Practical Nursing Program ~ Algonquin College I would also look at the one at St-Lawrence College: Practical Nursing - Brockville: St. Lawrence College :Practical Nursing (this is the Brockville link, but it is offer in Cornwall and Kingston has well). Do you plan on going for the BScN after? Good luck
  4. Hi everyone, I start it the BScN program at Laurentian. It was very expensive so I took a year off. I just got a result from an appeal. They decide it to give me the abandon mark (don't want to explain the reason). I am taking a year off and would like to go back next fall. I was wondering if I apply to other BScN or BN school (if they take transfer student) if I would have any question to answer about it? I do not want to said the real reason since I was not required to drop the program and I would no longer be on probation in that case.
  5. If you do the RPN program, you have 2 years of schooling. The RN is 4 years (except in Quebec which it is 3 years). You learn sciences, arts and psychology. But mostly how to be a nurse. For your last 2 questions it depends on how your program is build. Some has clinical in a theory course and some no. But I would said you at least have 10 clinicals for a RN. Not to sure for the RPN. I would look at a college where the RPN (Practical Nurse) is offer to see how many clinical there is.
  6. I know that. Most people would said that you need a lot of sacrifice for the RN program. I am not sure about the RPN they are both hard program.
  7. That it is up to you. I would wait and apply for the BScN program since if you do PN first, you need to work at least for a year in the field before doing the upgrade (if want to do the bridge over). Other then that you need to be in school for 4 years in the BScN. If you have good marks in your degree (around high 70's or even 80's), you should get in a second degree BScN program.
  8. You will have more chances to get a job after you are done your program since you had experience has a RPN. But in some cases, no.
  9. I'm in the BScN and refusing the flu shot can cause your clinical and failed a year. Don't try that. Just get the shot. If you have a medical reason to refuse it, just let the school know.
  10. I think you are still missing the maths prerequisite. I would talk to an admission officer to see what they can do. If you do not get in, try doing RPN at Algonquin and then transfer over to the BScN at Ottawa U.
  11. That is a scrude up program.
  12. I'm doing the Laurentian U program. Do the English one since they are teaching you to become the nurse. The French one has so much work and a lot of essays to write. You will be diagnosed with depression in the 2nd-3rd year. Here is how my program looks like :) Laurentian University | NURSING Laurentian University | Program Detail program
  13. Can I said a suggest it if you really want to do the Laurentian one. St. Lawrence college in Brockville, Kingston and Cornwall offer the BScN in Coll. with Laurentian.
  14. Okay thanks, I'll just tell them I can work weekend and day off. Hoping it will all work out.
  15. It's not necessary to become an RN to work in clinic. In case you were thinking of working into more change area like ICU or more... you need to be an RN to do so. But if you want to teach RPN program, for theory classes lots of colleges wants RN to teach them. In clinical placement, you can be either an RPN or an RN. I am in the RN program and there is a psychology class in the program. You can also take it has an elective. It depends if you prefer psychology over nursing, then do a degree in psychology. But I do encourage all RPN if they have the chance to do the bridge to become an RN. It's all up to you. May I said that the RN is not an easy program and needs a lot of sacrifices.
