Nursing Scholarships

Does anyone know any good resources to find nursing school scholarships?

I've heard http://www.discovernursing.com has a lot of links. I think also whatever schools you are applying to or are currently at usually offer quite a few. I think if you find some on your school's website, you don't necessarily have to be attending that school. I know the school I'm at now and the nursing school I'll be at in September both list some of the same scholarships.

Also, you may find some on your state board of educations website.

Look in your local papers also, like the education/living sections. I live in a small, small town, and the Women's Club offers a $750 scholarship each year (in fact, I just sent in my app. today). It only rarely gets filled because it's a small town, and it's only for women who are changing careers or are going back to school after being home with the children for a while.

This is the time of year when people are applying, so there may be stuff you can find out about locally that is being advertised.

Good luck! :)

Thanks for the info! I will certainly check into those options.

This might sound like a stupid question...but who are scholarships for? I am currently working full time right now, getting ready to start my pre-req's and save money while doing that and when the time comes and I get accepted, I will quit work and go to school full time. It will be hard on us but we make good money, you know how they say the more you make the more you spend....are the scholarships based on how much money you make?

Scholarships are for ANYBODY, regardless of financial need. If you meet the terms of the scholarship (some are just for women, some for students studying a certain major, etc. They all have their own requirements), then you can apply.

When you get the scholarship application, it will list the requirements on it. And believe me, there are scholarships for everyone - EVERYONE! Some are for people that are cancer survivors, certain religions, moms going back to work after being home with kids - you name it, there is probably one for it. :)

I think the wbsite is http://www.fastweb.com. Just fill out all the information about yourself and they email you new scholarships as they are posted. I sometimes get 5 per week. Some require essays, some commiunity service, and others you can just apply for.

This isn't always true. At my school they can decide whether they'll give you a scholarship based on your financial need. I'm in Michigan and there is a Michigan scholarship for nursing students but they allow the school to decide whether or not to base it on financial need. My school happens to do that. I received my scholarships from the hospital I want to work at after I graduate and also my husband's work. My husband makes a LOT of money, but my school is also EXPENSIVE. It just isn't right. If I have the right GPA, it shouldn't matter if the school thinks I need the money or not. Know what I mean?

I think she was asking whether anyone can get a scholarship. They can. Some are based on financial need, but many are not. I don't have a financial need, and have gotten a few.

Thanks! And yes that is what I was asking if you can get a scholarship even if you don't need financial assistance...:)
