How many of you have gone through nursing school and received enough scholarships? Especially for second degree majors...Do they really give enough $$$ to see you through college without having to depend on loans?

I am in the same boat as you. I start my BSN program next Fall, and I am graduating with my BS this May. So I am going to lose basically all my grants, since they are based on being an undergrad.
I am going to a private college, so it is pretty pricey as in ~$26,000 for tuition for the entire program. This is pretty expensive for where I am from.
I have signed a 2 yr contract with a hospital, the same one I have worked at for 2 years as a phlebotomist, and they have agreed to pay $7000. You may look into hospitals in your area, I know my hospital had the application on their website.
I also went to my municipal Workforce Center and applied for education assistance. It is called the Heartland Works Tuition Assistance. I felt kind of awkward at first because the center is mostly used by people in need of help looking for jobs of job training(as in technical skill, HVAC, etc), but I got over it. This is totally FREE $$$. I will be getting $6000 over my two years. All I have to do is check in with my advisor once a month, and that is even just an email.
You can always do a Google search, for scholarships in your area.

I was a white, american, female student. So no, there were no scholarships open to me. Only for black, hispanic, pacific islander, and native american.

Tempest, that is the story of my life. I worked so hard in high school, graduated a year early... my mom told me oh you're education is SO important you'll get so many grants/ scholarships if you excel in school & now I'm scrambling to find money for my books since my financial aid office wont award me ANY of my award money and they're withholding it.... long story short I feel so put off by not only my government but my college. I've worked so hard for all 17 years of my life , have a 0 EFC and I can't get a scholarship, or fin. aid money to save my life.

I'm a white man. And I applied for two scholarships for next year. One is through a local hospital and the other is the Alumni Scholarship. Haven't heard anything yet. I agree that there are many scholarships available for minorities (that actually target minorities ) and none available to white people, for simply being white.
In my State, there is an organization that gives scholarships to women only, but I think they focus more on Arts and Education.

Guys:
Take a look at the New Careers In Nursing (NCIN) program sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. You can read about this on the AACN website. The NCIN awards provide $10,000 scholarships to people entering Second Degree programs (ABSN, Direct Entry MSN) who are underserved in nursing. This includes men and people of color.
Individual schools apply for these grants, and then give them out to first-year students to meet the qualifications. In 2008, I had enough awards to provide all men and all students of color a $10,000 scholarship. This was a significant help for our tuition (instate tuition is 12K a year, out-of-state is normally 22K).
Look on the AACN website and see which schools have these NCIN awards.
