I am not trying to be rude or nosey, but I was wondering if you guys could give me an estimate of what you make a month? How long have you been a nurse and what is your specialty? What area do you live in?

Specializes in Public Health, TB.

I work in the pacific northwest. New grads start at $27/hr, if you can get a job. After 18 years, I make about $42/hr (union contract).

Specializes in ICU.

Downstate Illinois I make 31. 3 years cna, 13 lpn and5 rn. We get no bonuses and ot is becoming very scarce. Full time benefits. New grads make 20-22.

Specializes in GERIATRICS,HOSPICE,MENTAL/PHYS DISABILED.

I came out of LPN school making $18/hr w/ extra bonus if I was called in on a nonscheduled work day (in LTC facility in Southeast MO). I now work in Mid-TN area as a LPN for a Christian organization dealing with home health for mentally challenged individuals. I've been an LPN for almost 10 yrs. I make $22/hr, 40 hrs/wk, night shift. I also do part-time/prn @ a Temp Agency in Nashville TN & I make $21/hr. I have the choice of being paid that same day or I can wait for the every week or 2 wks to get my paycheck. I'm not sure what the RNs are making. I would sure love to find out.

Don't ever be afraid to ask how much a job pays. Nurses have to survive like everyone else. I'm just disappointed that after almost 38 years of being an RN in Cleveland, OH has gotten me not much of a pension. All my friends that were teachers are retired already and collecting State Teachers' Pension...big bucks to live on. Don't be afraid to ask about disability insurance, retirement benefits, 401K, etc. When I was a new grad back in 1973, I started out with fully paid medical benefits and $4.75 per hour. Now with a Master's I've had for 11 years, medical benefits suck, pay has stagnated, and no great retirement to look forward to.

I'm in Houston working at an urgent care. First job, with a BSN, started $20/hr. After 7 months, $22, and after another 4 months (start of 2011), raised to $25. Cool $5 raise within my first year! :D Since this is a private practice, I got $500 christmas bonus with extra $100 gift card. I get probably 5-10 hours OT per pay period (every 2 weeks). The only downside is: no benefits (insurance, retirement etc.) Am I getting a good deal here, guys? Hard to find a hospital job so I'm sticking to this for a while.
