Who is joining me in the 7th circle of hell?
This is my last class before Capstone and I am now regretting taking it amidst U.S. History II as that class is an insane amount of work.
So, who will be suffering through this with me?! Anyone??
***crossing fingers for a stellar group***
Oh lord is that missing now? Only one other person has submitted anything. And it was all wrong. Ugh. Group projects.... but whyyyyyy
I found it. What a mess.
Yikes! I feel for you! I have a good group and I still feel like I will have dedicated 30 hours to research between skimming the book, videos, OOH, doing the assignment, critiquing and I'm sure I will end up revising some others work. If all we have to do for week 5 is throw it in APA format then that means after this there are only 3 more weeks of content-collaboration.....
What are we supposed to do if people don't participate? What happens if they submit something last minute, too late for any critiques or revisions? What if they're told they need to revise and don't? I get that we can leave someone's name off if they don't do anything, but anything after that it's kind of grey. One person submitted their portion and it's entirely wrong. If they don't revise can I do anything? It seems my two options are to take it, and it let it effect MY grade, or fix it and "enable" them.
I'm pretty frustrated. Maybe they'll pull through, but I have a feeling I'll end up spending Sunday fixing everything. I know everyone's busy but I work full time too. And I want a good grade in case I decide to go to grad school. And I'm supposed to trust someone else to submit the assignment? What if they don't???
Ok I'm done venting for now. I think.

Let me clarify this for you. You can leave some ones name off if they do not turn anything in but not if they submit incorrect information. Plus they do not care who did what and which portions were correct, you will all receive the same grade. If you want to ensure you make a good grade you will have to correct or rewrite every portion of the assignment that is incorrect. Is that fair, no, but the sooner you learn to just accept it and move on the easier the next 5 weeks will be. I spent more than 40 hours a week with one other person in my group rewriting all of the other three peoples contributions. Some times I had to do the bulk of it on my own but my grade was too important to leave it up to others. Do not give them until the last minute, make assignments due early and if you haven't received their work you had better start completing their portions too or you will run out of time.
oh and one more point do not trust others to submit the assignment!!! On our final paper I spent hours correcting and rewriting it only to have the assigned person turn in our original rough draft instead of the completed paper. It cost me 10 points for it being late, even though it wasn't, and almost cost me an A in the class. Even if every one wants to take a turn I would still turn it in yourself too just to be sure the right version is submitted.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear you are going through this! I'm also having a hard time with trust. I was pretty ruthless in my critiques and I ticked off someone in my group. I admit that I probably came across condescending, but since I think half the people in this program are idiots, I operate on the assumption that everyone is and I really dumbed some things down. She was offended that I critiqued the fact that she didn't have citations for her direct quote of the purpose and problem statement and stated that she knew she needed citations or her GPA wouldn't be as high as it is. Fair enough but a) the point of a critique is to mention things like missing citations and b) how am I supposed to know that she knows she needs to cite? I'm not a mind reader!
Oy. Heads are clashing and I'm stupidly letting it ruin my one night without work and schoolwork. Time for wine!!!!!
Vera - pls let me know if there is anything I can do to help! Even if you want me to send over a typed copy of the OOH's every week to you so you don't have to waste time listening to them!
No it was another "blackboard glitch" and an old article was accidentally uploaded about fertility.
That's right, I heard that! I'd be pretty annoyed if I made time to be in the OOH but then still had to re-listen to it. So annoying.
This class is so much work. I have a really great group and it is still requiring lots of follow-up, re-vamping and organization today. I can't imaging what people are going through with a bad group.

This class is a trainwreck. That's all I can manage to say at the moment.
