Nursing Programs New York-Metro Area

If you're interested in a two year program and don't mind moving upstate, Plattsburgh has a program. When I was applying, they told me that they don't get that many applications so it's much easier to get into than Stony Brook. They said that most transfers apply at the end of May when they know that they don't want to go back to their old schools.

Binghamton and Buffalo also have accelerated programs. I'll start at Binghamton in the fall if I don't get in at Stony Brook or Downstate. I am on the alternate's list at Downstate too.

The schools are getting a lot of applications though. Binghamton sent me an email that said they received 830 applcations all together for their undergraduate programs but only had 100 seats. I was lucky. I applied at plattsburgh just in case and got in.

I go to Nassau community college and we don't have a waiting list, there is no list for our program ever. It's a two year program and not too far from where you were looking(stonybrook)

How did things turn out? Will you be going to Binghamton? I was accepted to the Accelerated BSN program. I'm on the alternate list for Oregon Health Sciences and that program starts in a month.....so, looks like I'm moving from Portland to Binghamton! Do you know anything about the town. Internet searches only seem to yield negative comments, but it can't be all bad???!!!?

Congratulations, Binghamton is a great school. I was accepted to Stony Brook's two-year program after having been on the Alternate list; I was turned down for their accelerated program. Other than health forms and insurance info, I haven't received any updates from Downstate. It looks like I'll be going to Bing after all.

I know that the school has a great reputation in NYS but I don't know anything about the town. Some of my friends have been there for parties and had good things to say about the atmosphere. Hope that helps. Are you going to the orientation on June 18-19? Will you be living on campus or off?

Thanks, I'm getting excited about the move. Big change. I won't be out there until mid August. I think there is a last minute orientation before school starts. I'm coming out with my husband and we rented an apartment already. Close to school near Floral Ave. If you go to orientation any info you have to pass on would be very appreciated. I feel a little out of the loop from Oregon. Are you doing the accelerated program at Binghamton? Or the two year?

Hey all! It is great to see other people who will be in the Binghamton Accelerated Program. I have been somewhat sad but full of anticipation as I finish my last year of teaching to start the program in the fall. I will be moving from Burlington, Vermont. If anyone has any tips for apartments-please let me know. I spoke to someone from a community close to school but the apartment was really small, so I am looking still.

I have only been to Binghamton twice-it will be very different from where I currently live but I think that the program is so intense I might not notice it too much. Please feel free to PM with any tips you might have about apartments or the program or whatever.

I also checked out the Plattsburg SUNY option because the University of Vermont wanted essentially 3 years because they only take their own Anatomy and Physiology and other very specific requirements. So..since Plattsburg is just across Lake Champlain I went to check it out last September. It definitely has the image of being the ugly stepsister to Burlington, Vermont BUT I was really surprised and liked the campus a lot. The nursing department was in a very cool older building. If I had not been able to do an accelerated program then I most likely would have taken the ferry to go to Plattsburg.

Was it at the Hayes apts? I checked there because it was so close to campus, but I was trying to imagine what 400 sq ft was really like. Sounded tiny and I moved on down the list. I was kind of suprised when I called some apartments and they were already rented for Fall quarter. It seems students rent them starting in June whether they will be in town or not. I just started going through the list at the Off Campus College office http://occ.binghamton.edu/. They have a great website. You can also see some apt pics on this site...http://www.buoffcampus.com/ although many of these were already taken when I was calling around. We ended up closer to Johnson City off of Floral.
