Work in long term facility where we have many enteral tubes. Question regarding tamsulosin via g-tube or j-tube. Is only available in capsule from our facility. We open capsule, and use a good flush, but causes major tube clogging. Any suggestions on how to avoid clogging???? Would appreciate any suggestions.

Tamsulosin should not be given through PEGs and Js because microcaps which are inside should not be crushed for correct adsorbtion profile. Ask providers to substitute either doxazocin (Cardura) or finasteride (Proscar). The latter one doesn't affect BP, but whoever crushes it has to wear mask and gloves because there are lingering problems with postexposure birth defects.

Adding enough water, constant agitation of the syringe while injecting and immediate flush of at least 60 cc could help for a while but it is just the med contraindicated for this particular category of the patients. "Wrong way of administration", classic form.
