RN-MSN program at Aspen University

Nursing Students Online Learning

I am enrolled in the RN-MSN program at Aspen University and after finishing the first two courses I feel that this has been a great choice. If anyone out there is looking for an affordable program with solid nursing content check out Aspen. :yeah:

You can find other student reviews of Aspen and American Sentinel University at:

Or just google for "Online degree reviews of aspen university"

You seem awfully invested in these schools. It makes me wonder if you work for them.

I often wonder if there are folks on forums that provide opinions to encourage enrollment. However the information provided in this thread is legit and available for anyone to review. The nice thing about Aspen is they aren't charging a ginormous fee for an accredited program. I'm psyched and I appreciate all the information.

I wish I had this kind of help in deciding what schools to attend when I needed it, rather than making that choice all alone and paying high tuition rates. I am just passing on information to others in need of help deciding. This would be the route I would take if I were to do this all over again. I hope its helped someone.

Also, the tuition is as follows: $2100 for the 7 course bridge program, $4800 for the MSN portion and $250 for the capstone course. Books are separate and must be purchased on your own. This tuition works out if you pay the Bridge program at $300 a class as you go, (= $2100); for the MSN portion you pay $2700 up front then pay as you go for the rest of it. So the total is approx $7150 with this plan.

Mtsteelhorse,

What is the difference between Aspen and American Sentinel University in terms of number of weeks (per course), number of discussion board postings and responses per week, participation, group projects, cohort courses, or self-paced courses?

Courses are typically 10 weeks long but are easily completed in 8 weeks. Discussion board posts are 2 per module and 2 responses but it is not unusual to maintain the discussion because you want to not because you have to. There are no group projects. It is self paced. They are REAL and very supportive. There is a project in the RN-BSN portion and a project in the MSN portion but the way it is outlined is VERY manageable. They have taken the adult learner to heart.

They are not regionally accredited which means if you transfer elsewhere it very well may not be accepted.

I believe that Aspen's CCNE accreditation carries at least as much weight as regional accreditation in a transfer situation involving nursing education classes. Aspen is accredited by DETC, a nationally recognized US Dept. of Education accrediting agency. Their nursing program is the first DETC-accredited program in the country to receive CCNE accreditation.

And in case anyone on the forum wonders--no, I am not employed by Aspen, LOL! I am a registered nurse and licensed midwife as well as Co-Executive Director/Program Manager of a U.S. Dept. of Education accredited direct-entry midwifery education program. I am also a satisfied Aspen RN-MSN student. The folks you see posting their favorable opinions are simply sharing their experience and perspective.

i agree with nizhoni. i am not employed by aspen. i am a student that is just having a fantastic experience. i was initially terrified about returning to school after so many years but they have taken thaat fear away and also made it affordable. the have the same accreditation the the major universities in my area have. their tuition is in the neighborhood of $45,000.00. i am even using some of the same books. no contest!

This information is invaluable. I am impressed with Aspen thus far and submitted the preliminary application last evening. I had an email exchange with the Dean and will speak with her next week. As far as ASU I have no clue how their program works. I know it's more expensive and that's about it. I trust those that say they are not imposters...thank you for your reassurance. I'm sure it happens all the time. I come to this forum in hopes of honest and supportive exchange. Thanks for posting. :D

The tuition must be paid up front to get the $100.00 per cerdit. The first part about $2100.00 for the BSN portion and the rest is due when you start the MSN portion. Total cost for the complete RN to MSN is around $7,000.00 the is very inexpensive. They are everything they advertise and more. I hope to see you in the classroon.

I'm willing to cough up some money initially for the long run savings. I will likely see you in the classroom! However, I think you're quite ahead of me. I have requested letters of recommendation. Now to begin the 250 word application essay. Where to begin? Any tips on preparing for the program? Maybe get real familiar with APA? Does the PERLLA program set up the document like a template? I don't mind purchasing it so long as it doesn't require a degree in computer science to use...LOL! Any tips are greatly appreciated. Where are you Aspen folks buying your books?

Specializes in Home health was tops, 2nd was L&D.

Do you know specific date Aspen started RN-MSN program? Any graduates yet? Do you know any one in the program longer than 2 classes? :)
