Hi
I am new to allnurses. Recently i moved to montreal, i have a nursing license from state of vermont, usa. with a 2 years work experience from a foreign country. Currently i am trying to submit an application to the OIIQ. Can someone give me an idea, how long is ot gonna take, and what is the rn exam like, is it similar to nclex or different, also how the whole process works. And later on, is it possible to transfer quebec lisence to other states. What is the pay scale here in montreal.
I m sorry for asking too many questions alltogether but i m really worried regarding my career at the moment.
Please reply.
Thanks a lot

State or province? if planning on staying in Canada then think province and not state.

You will need to pass a language exam as well as the nursing exam.

The OIIQ nursing exam is different from the NCLEX. It's a 2 day process, where on 1 day you have OSCE (situational) exams in which there are 16 stations where you have 10 minutes to assess the patient and perform appropriate nursing actions. The other day has a written exam (few if any multiple choice questions, I might have had 2 pick the best answer type question on my exam 3 years ago).
I would highly suggest reading the Guide that OIIQ has created for the exam and reading the rationals for the answers. Guide
And, while I'm not entirely sure of the delay for results for IENs, as I trained in Qc, don't expect instant answers (a la PVT trick seen here on the NCLEX forum). It's a paper exam, and when I wrote my exam, it was the last weekend in September and results were received in November of that same year.

By now you probably should be getting a provisional work license but it probably take until next spring for them to allow you to take the full exam. The French language requirement is nonsense in the sense that you have 4 years to pass those exams, although you have to file a reapplication for your temporary license each year. The other provinces don't give a damn about French and will convert your temporary conditional Quebec license to a full, unconditional license.

So by having a temporary quebec nursing license, one can have it endorsed to other provinces without any problems?

Why aren't you just in the province you really want to live in? It sounds like you are trying to use the Quebec system as a point of entry to the rest of Canada.
Where are you from, I know you said you had a licence in Vermont but where were you educated?
Hi dear Fiona59 sorry, i am not trying to use the qc. system for any means, i have a license from US , i took french classes, et je parle francais maintentant mais pas trop courament. I moved here from states to live here, not to use qc for entry to CA, if that was the reason, i would have gone to another province at the begining, why after getting a qc rn license .
I dont understand, how people invent answers, without deeply understanding the ques., i love this place, and have no intentions to move., i just asked those ques. for info., thanks
Thanks JmdRN, I would like to know is this guide sufficient, where can i buy some other exam related practice and comprehensive material. Please let me know. I would greatly appreciate. Thanks
