Nursing Loan Forgiveness

Published

Found this nursing forgiveness guide. Seems to be fairly comprehensive, a mix of federal and state programs across many states. First guide I have found like this.

I have a question though:

Has anyone participate in any of these? Curious to see if there is a large difference for service on the state or federal level. I know several of these state programs are federally backed.

I have done the Perkins Loan Cancellation program. Every year x 5 years you fill out a form which your employer signs confirming that you are working full time as a nurse. Each year, your loan is deferred and after a year of full time employment, a portion is canceled. After 5 years of full-time employment as a nurse the loan is forgiven.

Most other programs require that you work in a "health professional shortage area", of which there are very few in my state and I never pursued those options.

Specializes in Vents, Telemetry, Home Care, Home infusion.
