Working LPN with a drug charge

Nurses Criminal

Published

Hey- first a bit of a background on myself.

I am 22 years old. I completed the LPN program at 21. I have been employed as an LPN for over a year and a half. I have always smoked weed. During nursing school I quit for months, but after finding a steady job, I went back to smoking occasionally.

In December of 2016, I got pulled over. I was on my way home from working a double & I had weed in my backpack. I was pulled over for tailgating (I just wanted to get home.) but the cop apparently smelled marijuana and my car was searched and I was arrested.

Anyway, that was in December, & since then, I've attended court twice and had it adjourned because the lab work was not in.

June 23rd is possibly my last court date. The labwork is in & I of course have a lawyer, just wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar & has anything to tell me.

I stopped smoking weed so I will pass a drug test. I'm thinking I will probably be put on probation, just hoping I won't lose my job or my nursing license because I love my job dearly and I love being a nurse.

If if anyone has anything to say, please do.

I was arrested for possession of marijuana. Less then 20gm which is a misdemeanor. I went to my arraignment and was given only court cost. Paid the court cost as instructed but now I cannot find work. No one wants to hire me despite my Otherwise clean record. This happened almost one year ago and court was finished 8 months ago. Still no job. They say things like we hired someone with more skills but really I've been a nurse for 10 years and have many valuable skills.... I've been upfront about it..oh BTW adjudication was withheld. My license is clear. I don't understand. Messed up thing is the marijuana want even mine and I passed a drug test within 3 days after arrest to prove that. Not to make you upset but it really makes it difficult. I should be getting ready to renew my license but I'm so depressed over this I'm debating on saying forget it even though this is me this is what I do. This is all I know. I am a nurse. And a good one. í ½í²”í ½í¸¢ I just don't think I'll ever find employment. The BON had all the paperwork and my license is fine so why can't someone just give me a chance. They wouldn't regret it. I'm missing nursing so much

Sadly it might be difficult to find employment with any conviction on your record. I know that my employer completes a pre-hire background check and any charges that are drug, theft or violence related makes a candidate ineligible for hire regardless of whether or not their license is is good standing. That is the policy with many employers.
