Nursing student deferred adjudication felony

Hello there I am a nursing student at the university of Texas and I was wondering if anyone can give some insight to my problem. In 2012 I was arrested for a felony injury to a child/ elderly/ disabled and revived defered adjudication for 3 years. I completed my Cs and pairs my fines. Case was dismissed. To my dismay the compliance officer in my school informed me that I am going to be dropped from the program due to my discretion appearing on the background check. The officer then informed me that I would need to submit a declatory order to the texas Bon. What I am wondering is if I will be allowed to continue my studies and be licensed RN , or if more then likely the Bon will drop me and I will never be able to be a nurse anywhere? Also if this helps the person I had the confrontation with was my grandfather who I've always lived with and Still reside with. What had happened was we were arguing outside late at night the neighbors called the cops the cops said they had to take one of us in since it was a domestic dispute they took me since I was the younger one talking back. So that's how this whole mess came to be

The only place you can get an answer is from the state BON. These decisions are typically made on a case by case basis, so what someone else experienced may not be your experience. Find out before spending any more money on an education that you may not be able to use.

Felony injury implies that your grandfather was injured in this dispute. Just a loud argument would usually result in a domestic disturbance type of charge. I cannot say what your BON will decide as it truly is done case by case and only they will have the answer, but that's a toughy. Elder abuse will not look good. Might be a good time to speak with a lawyer well versed in nursing and BON issues and see what they say or can do for you.

A felony? That's more than an argument. You are going to have to contact the BON in your state, but I'm going to say no. It is very hard to get any type of job with a felony. I know you say it was dismissed, but all that info still shows up on any kind of background check.

By the way, a felony is not an indiscretion. If you have an affair, then you use that word, a felony with elder abuse involved, not even close. I'm very, very passionate about treating our elderly with respect. My 85 year old neighbor gets screamed at by her granddaughter all the time and it is not pretty. They also beat her up and steal her money to buy drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes. She is reduced to begging all of us for money to pay her bills every month. The police have been out numerous times and she won't leave or kick them out because they are family and need her to take care of them.

Don't downplay it. If a neighbor called the police, there was some type of concern for your grandfather's welfare. And you still living there means nothing.
