Nursing jobs where you don't pass Narcs

Published

While the stipulation is not on my license yet I have a pretty good feeling that it will be soon. I'm not going to "have access to or be accountable for any narcotic medication". Short story is that I failed a drug test for a new job because I took left over oxycodone that I had. Anyway, my question is are there many, if any, nursing jobs that I could do and not worry about passing narcotics to patients. Any help would be appreciated. Not the proudest moment of my live but it was my fault.

Definitely Dialysis. Blood donation centers are another possibility. I worked with an RN in the intermediate newborn nursery who was under rehabilitation for diverting. There was a meeting before she started working then we had the opportunity to ask the manager and RN in rehab. questions. She told us her story and was very well supported by all the nurses in the unit. We had some withdrawal infants and she was not allowed to handle the liquid phenobarbitol we gave infants at that time. She was actually involved in some kind of support rehabilitation program for people in healthcare and she completed successfully. I recall saying goodbye to her. Sorry, another old story from my 80's experience. Hope it helps. Good luck.

If you had a prescription for YOUR oxy, I don't understand the problem?

Has to be a recent script. If it's older than a year, OP is in trouble.
