nursing jobs in Family Health community field in Vancouver area

I 'm 27,

moving to Vancouver area in 2011 ( spring- summer)

I'm a community nurse ( working currently at a Family Health clinic)

Although I have a 3 year work experience in nursing rehabilitation field,

I really want to keep working as a community nurse and become a lactation consultant in the future.

From some reading of nursing web sites I got the impression that working in a Well Baby Care Clinic in Canada doesn't imply the same as it does here and mainly people go with their children to a doctor's private clinic for immunizations and growth and development follow-ups.

From your experience how does it work in B.C? Where do you take your children?

Another question: Which other city besides Vancouver would you recommend? Some people say- Kelowna.

I would like it to be as warm as possible, and close to the Parks, because I like backpacking. But not too small a community, so I can still find a job!

Where is "here"? Another province, another country?? Are you talking about Vancouver, B.C, or Vancouver, Washington state?

Childhood immunizations are done through public health, I don't know where you got the info that Cdn. children are immunized at "a doctor's private clinic"

In my experience most well baby care(including immunizations) are usually handled by the family doctor.

Lori, in BC and AB, the Public Health Units hold well baby clinics a couple of times a week and drop in sessions for new Mums. You can go every week and get the infant weighed and discuss any concerns you might have. The nurses in the units also do the immunizations and keep the records.

yeah they do the same here for people that have no family doctor. I know things are different from province to province.:)

If you were looking for a postion as a community nurse in a well baby clinic, where would you apply for a job?

For instance, in Israel we have the private clinics, family health centers operated by the ministry, centers operated by the health plans (polyclinics) and cenetrs operated by municiplalities ( there are about 3 in each neighborhood)

Can you direct me to some of them? Give me names?
