Hello! I am starting to consider working towards my BSN. What kind of nursing jobs do not deal with the emergency department? I'm really interested and passionate about nursing, but the emergency department makes me feel very, very nervous. Are there different jobs that are not as, well, emergency- like? Such as rehabilitating, etc? I understand there are emergencies in every department, but I just don't want to do the emergency department. I hope I explained this well. Thanks!

Other less emergent specialties include long term care (a.k.a. nursing homes), hospice, home health, private duty, ambulatory care, same-day surgery, correctional nursing, etc.

The emergency dept is only a very small amount of nursing. A small subsection. I would google all the specialties of nursing.

Have you ever been INSIDE a hospital?
Because the Emergency Department is just one very small part of the rest of the hospital. Go look at the floor directory for your local hospital and you'll get an idea of all the different areas that nurses work besides just that one.
PS -- it's not like TV at all... people don't come in from a car accident and have the Emergency Department doctor do their brain surgery and their thoracic surgery to repair a torn aorta and set their broken leg and then the patient recovers in the Emergency Department after each surgery having just one doctor/nurse the whole time, etc. After the ED stabilizes someone, they go to surgery (or wherever) and then they are off to a totally different part of the hospital for the rest of their stay.
