I am interested in hearing what title telephone triage staff nurses officially use. At our call center, they are "Health Information Specialist" I do not always feel this conveys what these nurses are during and am considering submitting a request for a new title to our compensation folks. Thanks for any input.

I'm dismayed by the number of folks who mistakenly believe that TT is not "real" nursing. Even a local Dr. made the mistake of commenting about how I'd "left" nursing. Grrrrr!
Telephone triage is a very important Nursing function. How anyone can believe that to triage is not to nurse, is an idiot. Let the average Doc or other Joe Blow sit at the desk and answer all the Mom's, Dad,s, Physician Offices, etc calls and see just how many skills you use. It's absolutely amazing :angryfire

Hi Everyone,
I work TT for a major insurance carrier. I now work from home. We are called RN - Health Coach. Our official title is RN-Analyst I but we introduce ourselves as being an RN Health Coach.
Yeah, I get the same thing! They are like...what is triage? But triage means to put things in order and that is what we do at triage....get vitals for the doctor, find out when, where, what, why, how....painscale ratings..and that is a very important job..while the doctor is the only one who can give a diagnosis, as triage nurses, we give him an idea of what he is treating and what tests he may need to run. So our job is very important.
I work at a Busy Internal Medicine office, Title "Nurse" Position Triage. In this office we are the Nurses, Hang IV's start Iv's, Assess Patients when they walk in without an appointments, EKg's, shots, Dressing changes, remove stitches, staples etc. don't forget it's not always about the Hands on, that gets routine, remember, Critical thinking that's where your Nursing comes in. Anyone can be taught to hang an IV, give a shot etc. Hope this helps.
