  1. I don't know about you but I have been a nurse for over 30 years and although nursing has changed in that time, I have always felt like a real nurse. Nursing is cylical, like many things. I have seen things come and go. RN's at the bedside and then not. Starting IV's and than an IV team and than back again. As long as I have been my patient's(or client's) advocate and taken care of the individual and in many cases, the family, than I have done my job and have a been a real nurse. Have a great day:monkeydance:
  2. If I remember correctly, i think the excessive ice leeches the iron and subsequently you have decreased iron supply....thus the anemia. I don't remember where I heard this but I believe it was in school. In any case, it's as good a rationelle as any other:chuckle
  3. I promise to tell you of anything I find. I thought I had something recently from the hosp where I used to work. They would set the equipment up in your home, train you in the office until you were OK on your own. The problelm for me was they pay by the call. So salary depends on the season. Since I want to work but I'm on disability, there's a limit to the amount of money you can make (even home-based) S-o-o-o-o-o how do you answer the phone and say "sorry I've reached my limit so call back next month":rotfl: That was the bum side of it. Try your previous hosp, maybe they have a home based telephone triage. When I worked there, I was not aware of the home based deal, I thought they all worked in the triage room "upstairs". Any way good luck with your search
  4. Thanks, i really appreciate the help.
  5. I am an RN now disabled (unable to work in the hospital areas) but I am very interested in triage of any sort. I have 30+ yrs experience and have done numerous years of triage in the Ed. Can anyone tell me how to contact Optum. An address or website would be appreciated.
  6. I too am interested. I have been a nurse for 30+ years and have done lots of triage in the ED. I am disabled and unable to nurse in the hospital situation and this sounds ideal. Can someone give me an address or tell me how they are listed. Thanks
  7. Thanks for the info. i'll be sure to start looking....I'll even begin in Oct :chuckle
  8. Hi there, I'm very interested too. I have recently retired but I miss the medical field. I am no longer able to do any type of floor nursing but I would love to do this or something from home. Any help?
  9. As you can see, I am in the same position. I promise if I hear of ANYTHING I will let you know. Good luck with the search. :uhoh21:
  10. Telephone triage is a very important Nursing function. How anyone can believe that to triage is not to nurse, is an idiot. Let the average Doc or other Joe Blow sit at the desk and answer all the Mom's, Dad,s, Physician Offices, etc calls and see just how many skills you use. It's absolutely amazing :angryfire
  11. fontbodybodyhi kidz. i think i work in this peds hospital (if it's located in b'ham) any way, i'm now out on medical leave and it seems as though i will probably have to go out on disability. i am looking for a way to continue to support myself without doing floor nursing. this sounds ideal. there's nothing wrjong with my mind or my voice. are they hiring? do they do any home triage? any and all info will be appreciated. thanks. :balloons:
  12. I too am looking for some type of home based nursing. I have recently been hospitalized with a chronic illness and unfortunately will be unable to return to work (currently in a Pediatric ED) I don't feel disabled and I know there must be something out there that is nursing related that I can do at home. Thanks for all the suggestions and if there are more I'd like to hear them. This will be the first time I have been without a job since my son was born and that was 31yrs ago. All help will be appreciated
  13. CALL THE POLICE. I believe it is now a felony to assault a hospital employee. I know it applies to those in the emergency room. If he was competent I feel he should be liable for his deeds. The other question I have is regarding the comment that he was requesting narcs. If he is addicted, the hospital may well say that this is an illness and that he is not liable for his actions. go figure. Myself, I'd let the law handle it.
  14. I am a SANE and operate through our ED. I am currently employed by a Children's hospital so most of our exams are naturally related to children. I have never heard of the Kaplan course. Is this SANE training or is this something else. I am also interested in knowing what type of forensics you do in long term/geriatric care. Thanks
