I need a change--help!

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hello! I am looking for a different type of job and I was hoping to find some advice/ideas here. Currently, I am working in a hospital on a telemetry/cardiac floor.

My coworkers aren't very nice to me and it is one big clique. They go to my boss and tell her things about me. For example, the other day, my patient had a fever and going into shock and I was on the phone with the Doctor several times, trying to get the patient to the ICU. Well, a bunch of them told my boss that I was sitting on my butt doing nothing while they all had to help take care of my patient. I was on the phone with the Doctor! I was doing as much as I could! And the second I was off the phone I was back in the patients room. I feel like there is no teamwork at my workplace and my night shift coworkers don't treat me like they should. They all just whisper amongst themselves when I'm around and I have heard from one of the stna's that they always talk about me behind my back. I feel like I am being bullied! So, I went to my boss and told her all of this. She says that 'several' of my coworkers are frustrated with me that they have to help me or that I ask too many questions. I ended up crying and getting emotional in from of her ughh:( but I'm very hurt that the coworkers don't come talk to me personally about any concerns but just go directly to my boss about it. And I don't agree with what I am hearing. I put 110% into everything I do, and it is about helping the patients. This was over a week ago and nothing has changed. However, I am switching weekends in February-so that I can work with some different people. Instead of the ones that I don't fit in with. Sorry for the rant. I'm just mad about it and am upset.

So, I am looking for a new job. And I am hoping for a new change with the new year. But I need some suggestions. I don't want to work in a hospital anymore right now. Preferably, I would like to work I. A doctors office or something with pediatrics and babies. I do NOT want to work with adults or the elderly. I feel like I have a calling to work with kids or babies.

I am also up to working somewhere outpatient like a surgery center or something

Really, I am having trouble with Indeed and other places. I feel that doctors offices only hire assistants, and that I would technically be

overqualified for the job.

I am an RN with a BSN and have 2 years of experience with adults/geriatrics. I am moving to Mentor, Ohio soon so that location is where I need to find something.

Please help me in being able to make a switch. Any suggestions for jobs that I spoke about would be great. Thank you!!!

telemetry unit.

Sorry, I was having trouble with the end there, but I do not want to do telemetry anymore

Anyone??

I experienced the same thing as a new teacher. Seek out a mentor who can reassure you and answer your questions. Sometimes it is best to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission. You need to feel confident in yourself. You are probably getting on their nerves. I have been in your shoes before. I learned to keep my mouth shut. If I do something wrong, someone will eventually point it out.

Not many doctor offices hire RNs and if they do the pay is not great. I know what you mean about not working in the hospitals though. I work in an infusion room in a clinic and could never go back to the hospital! At least not floor nursing. Those individuals that do it have something that I just do not have! Takes a certain person! [emoji6]

No matter where you work there is always going to be people you work with, that you just can't click with. When it starts to really affect your life then yeah it's time for a change. Hopefully your new crew will be a better fit..... At least until you can move.

Is there a children's hospital in the area you are moving to? I'm sure you could find something there. I know you said no hospitals but if you want to work with kids might be a good start. Or if your willing to take a pay cut go to a pediatrician office.

Either way look at this move as a new start and learn from this experience. You don't always have to be friends with your co-workers, you just have to be able to get along well enough to provide proper and safe care to your patients. Hang In there.

I worked at a nursing home for over a year as the night shift RN supervisor and was miserable because of all the backstabbing. Nurses and STNAs didn't get along. Always telling on one another. Making my job very stressful because I was always the blame for when things went wrong with the staff. I now work at a plasma donation center in Akron and love my job! The group of nurses I work with are awesome! Managers are willing to help when needed and the hours are pretty good. I am sure there are a few centers in the Mentor area. PM me if you want more info.
