My classmates and I are to develop a theory on the topic of the effect of environment on performance. We would like to differentiate the elements of a nurse friendly facility and one that is not. Without using names or facility or other type of identifying information, it would be helpful for us if you all that wish to participate rate the following questions from 1-5 based on your current or most recent facility, 1 being poor and 5 being excellent. The last question is for elaboration on the other questions should you choose. If you could at the end just put the TYPE of facility and your department. Thank you all so much, this a huge help as between the five of us in my group we know only 3 nurses. Thank you in advance.
1. Do you feel you have autonomy in your nursing practice?
2. Do yoo feel the nurse patient ratio supports a safe environment?
3. Did you have an adequate orientation on your unit?
4. Does your facility support your ongoing education needs (ie. ceu, ADN, BSN, MSN)?
5. Do you feel your wages are competitve and recognize outstanding performance?
6. Does your facitlity recognize your individual merit?
7. Does your facility recognize the need for nurses to balance work and non-work life?
OPTIONAL
8. How satisified are you overall in your current facility?
Once again thank you all who respond so much, this will be incredibly helpful!
Thank you all who looked through the thread, was hoping for a good response. Maybe the mods. could help me and suggest a better area for the thread. A couple of responses would be very helpful.
Thanks

1. Do you feel you have autonomy in your nursing practice? Absolutely not.
2. Do you feel the nurse patient ratio supports a safe environment? Not really.
3. Did you have an adequate orientation on your unit? I work in LTC, so I had only one day of orientation. That wasn't adequate.
4. Does your facility support your ongoing education needs (ie. ceu, ADN, BSN, MSN)? They provide $1,000 in tuition reimbursement.
5. Do you feel your wages are competitve and recognize outstanding performance? I'm a new LVN who earns the same hourly rate as another LVN who has 17 years of experience. Is that fair to the experienced nurse?
6. Does your facitlity recognize your individual merit? No. They're simply happy that I show up for my shifts since they are so short-staffed.
7. Does your facility recognize the need for nurses to balance work and non-work life? No. They simply need to fill all of the vacant shifts.
8. How satisified are you overall in your current facility? It's okay.

On questions #1-7, all answers = 5
Questions #8, answer= very
However, my answers would have been very different when working on a different unit in this hospital.
Good luck! Will we be able to see the results of your research?
