Hello!
I am graduating in December and I have the summer off so I've begun looking at potential places that I'd like to work.
I'm thinking I'd like to do a nurse residency because I want to work in a pediatric Critical Care setting (PICU or Peds ER) and I feel like having that whole year with someone helping me and that I can ask questions without feeling like an annoying dummy.
Anyways, I was wondering if anyone here was looking at Vanderbilt's Nurse Residency for February 2018? I'm not from Nashville, but I'm also not too far away as I'm from North Alabama. I'd appreciate any tips about the residency or about Nashville!
Thanks
The link to send them your shots and stuff? I haven't delved into it much, but when I looked at it, it popped up fine. I do need to get my records of having all those shots though. I just got my copy of my flu shot. lol I may let Vandy do my second TB skin test when I get there because I'm due for my work one next month.
The links for direct deposit setup and parking are either not working or telling me access is denied. I also can't access the on boarding portal anymore for some reason.

I haven't gotten the email about that yet (just the shots info) but maybe that's because I don't start until the end of Feb.
Hey guys I'm in surgical track and just got placed on unit but it's not my number one choice of unit..what do you guys suggest doing? Should I email and ask if there are any openings on the unit that interests me? By all means I'm appreciative and excited for this opportunity but I would like to maximize my time at VUMC. Any advice?

I emailed to ask something similar and was told that everything is full and there's not switching. I'm in Cardiac though. You may try, but just be prepared in case they say no.
Hey thanks! Were they meant by any chance? I just am worried about having the offer rescinded in some way or have some sort of retaliation
It was more of a "Thank you for expressing your interest, however we cannot do that because all areas are full and we do have a waitlist."
Kinda like, if it really bugs you enough to want to leave, then leave, but otherwise please stay where you are. In all honesty, I THINK we can transfer internally after a few months or the residency is over. I don't know specifics about it. You could probably say something like "I have an interest in this unit and was wondering if I would be able to switch or when I might be able to transfer later on?" Someone else might want what they put you in from where you want to be.
Good luck!
I also found out my placement and I'll be in the Neurology/Epilepsy unit!! I'm super excited and cannot wait!! I was getting a little nervous about everything, but being placed in neuro has eased my nerves quite a bit and honestly I cannot wait to be there now. I will definitely miss my church family from my hometown so I don't think I'll wind up staying at Vanderbilt for longer than 2 years, but I'm sure the entire experience will take my nursing career to the next level.
