New grad in LTC with staffing agency

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hi, so I graduated about a year ago and still haven't been able to find a job. Hospitals all want at least 6 mo of experience and the nursing homes I applied to are also hesitant to hire a nurse with no experience.

So, I feel like my last option is going to a staffing agency, but I know a lot of nurses wouldn't recommend that for a new grad. But honestly, it looks like I have no other options.

I found a staffing agency recently that said they could find me work at a LTC/nursing home as a new grad, BUT with conditions. They won't pay me for the orientation period which will be a week, 2 weeks the most, until

I work a few days on the floor. Is this sketchy? Should I take it? Is working for a staffing agency going to be a real disservice to me as a new grad? I've read some forums on here and most don't recommend new grads to work with an agency.

There was another agency that contacted me for an outpatient clinic position, but I also don't know if I should consider that too because of all the things I've heard about working for an agency as a new grad.

Anyways, I would appreciate any and all constructive advice. Thanks in advance!
