Nursing Interview: Missed Call?!

Published

I am a new nurse that is struggling to find a job in MA and I received a call last monday evening to set up a job interview in an area of nursing that I love. It was my dream job, and unfortunately I missed the call. The nurse manager left a message and asked for me to call her back to set something up, and said she was going to be in and out a lot so not to panic if I miss her. She didn't leave her number to call her back on, and the number she called from didn't work, so I emailed her and told her I got her message and was thrilled to be given the opportunity to meet with her. She emailed me back and said she would give me a call the following thursday. Well it is now wednesday of the following week and I still haven't heard from her. I did finally find her office number and left her a message on Monday morning to give me a call, but I'm wondering if I missed my chance at this job because I missed her initial call? Needless to say I'm panicking and would appreciate any input anyone has on this. I'm hoping she's just been busy and with the blizzard we just had I'm assuming she either missed a few days or has been swamped with people unable to get to or from the hospital. Should I keep calling or emailing her? I don't want to give the wrong impression, but I really want this interview!

First I have say that I am surprised a nurse manager would be making the call; often times a Recruiter from HR is the first to reach out and complete an initial screen for the potential candidate. That aside, she called you and invited you to call her back but did not leave a number, and then there continued to be a set of misses on her side. That was NOT very professional on her side. I would say let it go.

I'd send one more email telling her you are really excited about this opportunity, this is your dream job etc, and you have wide open availability for an interview and to either email you back or call with a date/time to meet in person etc.

I'm hung up on this BIG red flag: who calls for an interview, leaves a message, but does NOT leave a number to return their call when they ask for a return call?

I sent her one more email this morning, saying how thrilled I was to have this opportunity and how I hoped she still wanted to meet with me. And she finally got back to me and we scheduled a interview for monday morning! Goes to show you shouldn't give up on your dream!!

Well, good luck on Monday!

I'm in this exact same situation right now and I'm still waiting on a call back. I'm getting nervous.

might be an honest mistake. i can't believe anybody would turn town a position because an interviewer didn't leave a callback #. i almost thought this was a troll post, until i saw the post counts and the "likes". i would use my brain and resources to find the #, email, or show up in the office (i wouldn't recommended this UNLESS you're ready to interview on the spot).

and good luck OP

The manager called me and set up an interview no name, no phone number, nothing! I had to google the number and see where the number came from. It was from UCSD and I remember I applied there for a nurse position. I called the number back and told them I missed a call maybe in regards to a nursing position and forwarded me to the manager and we set up an interview and time. I drove to the hospital and tried to find her office... to "interview" with her. The front desk people told me she wasn't there that day. I was seriously confused. Then the front desk lady called her and told the manager I was here. The manager told me to come back next week same time. I did just that thing and showed up for my interview etc etc. Apologized to me about making a mistake or whatever and promised that she called (I don't need promises). The interview went well and I met the staff and toured the place and then she told me she would call me back. I got a call from them and no one left a voice mail or anything. I just don't appreciate unprofessional manners it is annoying and a waste of my time. So I left a voicemail with her and thanked her for the interview and consideration and interviewed with different hospitals.
