Is it possible to bring up pay during an interview in a tactful manner?

I currently work full time in the ED in hospital A which is 30 minutes from my house. I also work PRN in med/surg/oncology at hospital B which is 20 minutes from my house. I am trying get away from med/surg.

Even though the position at hospital B is PRN I don't make more there per hour that I do at my full time job since I stopped doing nights for them.

I have two interviews for PRN positions coming up. One position is in the cardiac cath prep/recovery area at hospital B. The other PRN position is in the ED at hospital C, a level II trauma center 6 minutes from my house.

How do I ask for a raise tactfully during the interview process at hospital B (prep/recovery)? I have asked HR about this before but there is a very rigid structure to pay based on how many hours worked. Essentially, I would be requesting to be taking out of that "level system" for PRN RNs (which is called FLEX I, II, or III) and just be a PRN employee with hours and compensation decided by the manager.

As for the second PRN position (ED) at hospital C, I know that this ED is very short staffed and the population is not easy to deal with. However, if I am compensated well I would take this job, although ideally I would want a more "relaxed" job (prep/recovery) that pays really well. Can I ask about pay before accepting the job at hospital C if offered the position?

There isn't any "tactful" way to ask in the interview, and doing so puts you at a disadvantage in the process. If the organization decides to offer you a position, HR will discuss what compensation they are offering you when the formal offer is made, and that is the point at which you can do any negotiating. I would NOT discuss money or pay at all during your interview, that is a BIG no no!! Wait until you have a job offer and then tactfully ask for more money!
