Actually my first job was at the ancillary of SLMC. Nurses under ancillary services are under their respective department heads, not the Nursing Service. I have friends from other departments who are nurses as well. There is no usual IVs, or meds bedside nurses are used in doing, but other duties and responsibilities a nurse should know and do. The primary responsibility I had with my former job was initiating IV's. I enjoyed that because I get to be an expert in phlebotomy. When I was in college I thought I will never get a vein cannulated because I suck at it before. Then there's the sedation process. Like a mini OR, whatever a PACU nurse do, I do it. Regulation of narcotics in the area, I handle that. Maintaing the crash cart too. There are some clerical and administrative work.

Being in ancillary is fun and challenging. Some would say its not a real nursing job, but I oppose because It is all about holistic patient care too.

I dont know if they changed the system of application just now, I just submitted my resume last week July. If you are directed at the DCA, perhaps you can mention that you are more interested in ancillary. DCA is for bedside in QC.

Oh, and you said something about work schedule? Mine was 8-5. 0r 7-3. Some areas, like catheterization laboratory and dialysis have night shifts. Though almost all operates working hours

I totally understand you. When I was starting out, I felt I everything I worked for goes down the drain. Dont ever give up.

Hello yoojin! Thanks so much for giving attention to my queries. Um, I don't mean to be intrusive but may I know why you quit your job? How long did you work as ancillary? Is there any way that you could shift from ancillary to staff nursing? How was the compensation? Is it comparable to staff nurses? Actually, the compensation is further on the list of my prorities because what's more important for me now is to get a job somewhere not too far from home.

And lastly, if SLMC-QC hires you back as ancillary, would you go for it? Or would you rather wait for the chance to be a staff nurse in Taguig even if the hospital won't open till late next year?

I'm sorry that I'm asking too many questions. I'm at the point of my life where I'm just sooo confused about what to do and which path to pursue. I don't want to make a bad decision. The nature of your job sounds really good to me, though of course, I prefer to be a bedside nurse. But that's not possible right now so I'm looking at ancillary jobs. :(

Thank you so much yoojin for all your info. :)

raine14 and leader,

i just finished my interview for st. lukes bcg. yoo_jin's right, it's a group interview. there were 5 of us. the usual "tell me about yourself" was asked. for the girls, may i advise you to tie your hair in a ponytail (if it is long)... because one girl was told by the HR to tie her hair because they want to see her face... and please please please speak in english the whole time! the HR told us that st. lukes will be like an english speaking zone so one of the things that they're looking for is mastery of the english language... well, not actually "mastery", rather the ability to converse using the language (and with confidence, the HR told us). also, please be in corporate attire.

raine14, regarding the body issue, i wasn't able to observe that because all the people that i was with during the group interview weren't too big or too thin.. so there.

leader, yes, i applied for a staff nurse position. but during the interview, there were also applicants for other positions.

hope i get a call for a technical interview.:specs:

Hello.

I quit my job because of two things: My grandmother went back from the US, no one is available to take care of her, so being the nurse in the family, it's my responsibility (and I love my granny) Second, is that SLMC was on the verge of kicking out June 2006 passers that time, so my move was to get out of there and review for the whole retake of the exams. Well, after I passed the recent exams there was an opening at a local hospital here in our province. I figured this would be a great opportunity to work nearer my residence (I was commuting from Bulacan to Manila everyday). However I missed St. Lukes so much, I wanted to get back in. Theres no question about it,their system in patient care and quality of service is one of the best in the country.

Yes, there is a chance you will be transferred in wards after two years of being e regular employee in Dept. of Ancillary (DAS).The compensation is the same with satff nurses in SLMC.

Actually I received a call not too long ago from ancillary. I wouldve said yes, but, let's just say I received another offer that's too good to refuse.

I went through the same situation you are in right now. All you need to do is try hard. Cliche I know but it worked for me. Good luck! :heartbeat

Hey raine: The notice at the glass door on the 5th floor about directing your applications at the Dept. of Clinical Advancement was clearly for STAFF NURSES only. FOr ancillary, hand your resume to the personnel inside the HR. Sometimes people get irritated with applicants going in and out the door. SOme would say you need to pass it at the ground floor. It's up to you how you do it. :redbeathe

there's no height limit for applying as a staff nurse at St Luke's medical center.I myself is 4' 11" in height but they accepted me. I am done with my medical exam and will begin the training this Aug 14.Just do your best!! Good luck!

can u give us an idea as to how they select nurses for st lukes global city? :) thanks!

i mean the process of selection..... and once u get hired, are u automatically hired for good or they'll train u first then see if ur really hired or not?

Yoo jin, thank you so very much!! Everything that you've shared were invaluable. You have been a very important resource person for me even if I don't know you personally.

Thanks again!

Hi again yoo jin! Regarding that really nice offer, could it be that you're referring to the chance to work as a staff nurse in SLMC-GC? Could it be that you're already hired and would start training already? I also applied and already underwent the medical exam. I think I would grab this opportunity but I still have some reservations.

Anyway, thanks again yoo jin for giving me attention. Good luck! :)

No, actually it was an offer for a job abroad.

Congratulations on your new job! I am so glad to help a total stranger. My suggestion is: don't have second thoughts about SLMC. It is a well rounded institution. You'll never go wrong with them :heartbeat
