Nursing Implications vs. Nursing Interventions

I have a bit of a silly question but it's something that still confuses me. What exactly is Nursing Implications and Nursing Interventions. Every time I think I finally understand what interventions means I wind up getting it wrong. I don't really understand what implications mean but it looks like it means the same as interventions.

I have the Davis' drug guide book and when I'm looking for Nursing interventions I see Nursing Implications. Are these the same thing?

Thanks for all your help!

"Implications" are things you need to know about and take into consideration as you plan your care. They include things like the possible side effects of a drug, things you should be sure to assess or do, etc.

"Interventions" are actions, things you do to help the patient.

These words are general words in the Enlish languish -- and they are not mutually exclusive terms. They are conceptual categories that overlap. Some items can be in both categories -- but the words have slightly different meanings. That's what makes it confusing for someone who is not used to using those words.

In the drug book, a nursing implication = what you need to know about the drug as far as its effects and side effects go...also what patient teaching might be needed....

I think of it like this...

Implications: What I need to be aware of concerning this disease/drug.

Interventions: What I'm going to do about it.
