Nursing Immigration within the US

World Immigration

Published

Hello,

I am currently a perianesthesia RN at a hospital in Georgia. I have my BSN. I am trying to see if anyone knows of hospitals anywhere in the United States that sponsor their nurses on an immigration track. I am willing to travel anywhere. My current hospital does not sponsor its nurses. Any help is greatly appreciated. Nursing is my passion and I want to continue giving excellent nursing care.

I signed up with Interstaff Inc. and couldn’t be happier about the process. I’ve met a lot of black sheep along the way and Interstaff Inc. has really come through. Sure their assignment is 3 years compared to 2 years, but I trust them. I graduated from a US Community College and had a work permit for a year and tried to have my hospital sponsor me, but they usually don’t as if anything goes wrong during filing they don’t want to waste money, therefore they usually hire via an agency such as Interstaff. I had to leave the States and start a tedious licensing process in Germany. Get more work experience and now I’m literally waiting for my consular appointment. I’ve met a bunch of black sheep’s in the agency system abroad and here’s a list of agencies I don’t recommend:

ADEX ( they only file for adjustment of status and for some reason accept nurses who literally just graduated, they took all of my documents and then said there wouldn’t be enough time to file because my visa screen took a while. Never called me back for Weeks)

I don’t recall the name completely, but something with „ Pacific....“, it’s an Asian couple, she leads the agency, her husband is an immigration lawyer. I was working on Neuro as a new grad with an OPT permit and before they even filed they wanted me to move to PA and start working for the client. Their nurses were housed by the dozens from all over the globe and it was a pediatric home health job. I never worked peds nor did I have experience with ventilators, so I declined. It seemed odd to me that their nurses wouldn’t live in their own apartments and who knows if that Greencard would have ever been filed. I’m lucky I declined.

Premier Healthcare professionals- Had an interview with them in London, those two employees suddenly didn’t work for the agency anymore and when I had enough work experience to file my paperwork I’d always get the same response „ I’ll check with our immigration lawyer“ then weeks of silence. They claimed they had some issues during Covid, but most agencies ran on extra speed during the pandemic. I got them to release me from the contract and luckily remembered an interview I had with Interstaff in the past. Impatient as I was back then, I thought the other offers would get me a faster arrangement. I was so wrong. From day one they’ve been on top of everything, frequent updates. I literally just received my NVC welcome letter and am scheduling my consulate interview soon.

passport USA - literally never came through, useless calls and then when I was already in Germany claiming they had change in staff and would like to sponsor. They work with a lot of long term care facilities and I knew I wanted to stay in the hospital setting.

Know that the US prefers consular processing over adjustment of status and a lot of nurses have been denied. There are a few solid agencies out there, go with the ones that have the resume to back it up or better yet, you know someone who went with them. A former co-worker of mine recommended them to me and I should have never looked for another one.

Hi Nadine,

Be sure to clarify your contract with Interstaff, they got new management and a colleague went through an unfair situation with them. She ran into some issues with the facility she was working and her contract was terminated by the facility after almost a year, Interstaff got her a new contract and wanted to start counting the 3 years contract all over again.

Hey thanks for the heads-up. A former co-worker of mine worked for them as well and had only good things to say, so I assume it depends on what happens at the facility. I’m not familiar with her alternative options but signing up for another year is probably better than paying the retainer ??

That’s assuming it doesn’t happen again cause they said she will start the contract all over again if it does. She left the agency after that.

I know someone who did that with passportusa because of delayed filing with no implications. Agencies are different but it seems plausible to not be liable if they never did fulfill their part of the contract

Dollybird : can you please connect me to your friend who got out of a contract with passportusa? I am in the same situation with a big agency who can't deliver their promises and leave me with no job for 4 months already. Thank you so much!

Your situation depends on what the agency has done for you already, there is usually a monetary penalty if you choose to leave after the agency has processed and paid for your immigration and/or licensure. If they haven’t done anything for you then send them an email requesting termination of contract and be sure to state your reasons why you’re leaving including them not fulfilling their part of the contract. If they have done something for you, you can still send them same email but you’ll be fined as penalty for breach of contract. You are able to terminate contract either way.

Thank you for your input. The agency has sponsored me for a green card but unable to find me a full time position. I have contacted them for 2 months to get updates on my work but there were no confirmation on jobs. Not sure how long I have to sit around with no work cause I can't work for other places due to potentially breach of contract. Again, thank you for getting back to me!

how can you take NCLEX exam without having permanent status? can you even do that before someone sponsoring you?

Hi Knuyen, I have the same situation as you. Could you suggest me what I should do?
