Nursing home experience is not regarded as acute care experience. Outpatient dialysis is not regarded as acute care experience, either. Nursing home staff regularly transport their residents to local dialysis centers for routine HD, and dialysis center staff regularly send patients back to the nursing home after their HD chair time has elapsed. In other words, a nursing home with multiple ESRD patients will be dealing with dialysis centers frequently, so the two types of workplaces are interconnected.
However, both types of settings do qualify as nursing experience, which is the thing that matters. Both settings will allow you to hone your assessment skills, deal with patient care, delegate to CNAs and/or dialysis technicians, master the art of time management, and practice hands-on skills. You could possibly land a position in an acute care hospital if you are able to play up your experience and convey to the interviewer that you have learned skills that will be beneficial to their facility.
Good luck to you!
