hi guys, thanks for reading my post. I just want to ask regarding Nursing Home issues. As of the moment, I am hesitant to work in a Nursing Home (I think I don't have a choice right now ) due to "stay in and curfew" issues aside from the compensation package that it offers. Is it safe to stay there because all I wanted is to stay only with my family but I think Nursing home won't allow it. One more thing, Is there a Bigger chance or possibility that If I would start in a Nursing Home, I would be given the same chance just like in hospitals to become a Staff Nurse in the future? Thanks so much for your information and for your help. Good luck and Godspeed.:nuke::nuke:

Hi. What do you mean by nursing home won't allow you to stay with your family?
As far as starting as a Nurse in a nursing home-I know many nurses who have started in long term care and then worked in a hospital. I work in a nursing home. I've worked in hospitals too. I like like where I work. I work on a sub-acute unit. It can be a very nice place to work. You just have to find the right one.

I am confused about "staying there, and staying only with my family". Do you want to live in a nursing home or work in one?
Working in a nursing home as a nurse is very fulfilling for me. I have all types of patients from Alzheimer's, Fractured Hips, COPD, Trach's, to Weaknesses and malnourished patients. I Wouldn't work any where else, personally. I hope this helps you.

I, too, work in a nursing home. Actually, between agency and facility employment, I have only worked in nursing homes. Right now, I work on a subacute unit. We have a full time respiratory therapist, 11 vents/trachs, tube feeds, a fresh quad. It is a very fast paced, demanding unit and I love the challenge. I hang numerous IV's every night, start all my own lines, trach suctioning, very compromised patients.
Working in a nursing home nowadays is not just grandma getting a few pills and bingo every other day
That's for dang sure! Although, there is bingo!

Have you actually been offered a job as a nurse in the Nursing Home? or is it a job as a carer?

my comments are in red above.i wish you the best of luck in whatever environment you end up in.
Hi, I am actually looking for a job right now and one agency offered me a job in a nursing home as a nursing aide because my qualifications don't fit at all due to less than a year of experience. And they told me regarding nursing home stay in and curfew hours. I actually asked them If I would be allowed to stay home but they said no for an answer that made me hesitant to accept the offer.
Thank you so much for all your replies and substantial information that I need. Muchas Gracias! :kiss:blushkiss

Noticed that you are in Singapore now, is that where the job offer is for, or another country?
Working in a nursing home should not have a curfew with it, unless you are being kept there against your will and having to live in the facility as well.
If for work in another country from your own, you should never, ever consider an assignment like this for any reason.
