Hello all!
I'm a nursing home administrator and I'm looking for gift/event ideas for my nurses during nurses week. I want to go to the source for things nurses would like get or appreciate without ruining the surprise for my staff.
My current ideas include:
A pic of each nurse on a matte and have the staff/residents write messages on them then framing them.
Spa kit with face mask, bath salts, etc
Pins and notepads
Food on each of the shifts.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

That is really so nice of you to be thinking about and planning this.
As a DON some things that I have done are as you have said, food for each shift and the spa ideas are always appreciated!
Other things: 1) Pins for all nurses
2) A rose or carnation for all nurses
3) With the help of a local chaplain, we have had 'The Blessing of the
Hands', the nurses seemed to be pleased that this was thought of for
them.
4) One year, the chaplain wasn't available. We had a rash of deaths of
some of our most beloved residents and several staff members had
family deaths, so I bought a bunch helium balloons (I know, not strictly
environmentally sound, but did hearts a lot of good!). We went out to
the courtyard and after expressing my sadness of recent events and in
order to show how much we care for each other, we had a moment of
silence for all those that we have lost and released the balloons. Yes,
there were tears but it seemed to heal our group and bring some much
needed 'release' of emotions.
5) A Mary Kay consultant approached me one year to come and do hand
massages. It just happened to be right before nurses week and I
needed something for that Wednesday. So it was perfect. She came
and did hand massages for the nurses (and came back for CNA week
for the CNA's and Nursing Home week for the patients), did hand ,
massages and raffled off a basket of Mary Kay goodies.
6) Made up Word Searches and Word Scrambles with the first person to
turn them into me correctly recieved a gift card for restaurants, or
gas or beauty places. Yes, some grumbled that they didn't have time
to fool around with this, but they were some of the first to finish it
get it back to me for thier prize.
Ok this is some of it but I do like your idea about matting their photos and letting us make comments. I may just have to steal that one! Good luck and have fun!

Something like a little personal nore how the cared for a patient or coworker. Did the extra mile. Enclosed with paucheck. Sometimes maybe hard but everyone needs a little kudos moment now and then.

I'll be doing facials, manicures, and pedicures for the nurses. Baskets of homemade treats for each shift are on the agenda, too.
