Which do you have? Springhouse, Saunders, Mosbys, so many to choose from! Thanks! :)

Specializes in Hey I'm now an RN!!.

Davis drug guide- it was a requirement

Specializes in med/surg, telemetry, IV therapy, mgmt.

I prefer Mosby's because the drugs are listed by generic name in alphabetical order. Most of the other books have the drugs grouped by the category of drug they are generally assigned to. The problem I find with that is that not all drugs are used for one purpose. An example is the drug Topamax (generic name: topiramate) which is classified as an anticonvulsant. However, it is also given to prevent migraine headaches and I have also seen doctors prescribing it to control neuropathic pain in people with sciatica. Although all the books have an index in the back where you can look up the drug and find out where it is located in the book I prefer the Mosby's because I can find the drug alphabetically within the book itself without having to use up time finding it first in the index.

Thanks guys! I heard the Sauners one doesn't have nursing inteventions, so that rules that one out. Anyone else??

Specializes in Vents, Telemetry, Home Care, Home infusion.

I've used Springhouse for ~ 20 years...tried Davis and couldn't get used to it.

Nursing Spectrum has a drug book out that looked good when I browsed thru Borders recently. To think I USED to be able to carry it in my unit pocket during RN clinicals in 1980-----sigh.

Davis drug giude-I love it! I also loaded the cd on my laptop so I can look stuff up when I do papers and careplans.

I also like the Davis Drug Guide for Nurses. Can't find anything wrong with it. I have never had any problems or trouble looking up drugs! So there.

LOL thanks everyone!

SPRINGHOUSE ALL THE WAY!!!!! :nurse:

I use Springhouse cause every nurses station in the hospital and nursing homes use em. I don't want to get spoiled using some other kind, and then try to get used to a new type.
