nursing careplans

can anyone recommend a good nurse careplan book, someone suggested a book by Mosby ... Thanks

I have five or six care plan books and pretty much the only two that I open are Carpenito's "Nursing Care Plans and Documentation" and "Nursing Diagnosis: Application and Clinical Practice". I love them. (Okay, I hate care plans but these books make it MUCH MUCH easier.)

You shouldn't need a book. Sit down and seriously think of the things you can do to "care" for your patient and write that down. Don't spend money on a book. If need be go to careplans.com. If you need a book, you should really seriously think about changing careers.

Excuse me? Hogwash! Maybe you were born with with NANDA taxonomy I and II floating through your head, but I wasn't and I don't plan on changing careers. A careplan requires a nursing diagnosis first and foremost. I agree that critical thinking should be foremost in the plan but a little help for beginners is definitely in order.

Our school uses Carpenito's but I'm using the Ludwig and Ackley Nursing Diagnosis book. It has careplans and rationales like most of them. I also have the Mosby book but it's bulky and I don't like the way it's set up.

May I reccommend Mosby's Nursing Drug Cards. I love them. The index has different conditions, and nursing dx related to that condition. You go to that card, and pull it out. They have different interventions with rationales. I really love them. Carpenito is really good to. It helped me to "get" the process of making a nursing dx. BTW, are you going to graduate in 2005? My name is Maggie also, and I'm set to graduate in May of 2005. Just thought that was kind of neat

Well guys - I have to be honest. I'm finishing a BSN completion program and it had been a long time since I had written care plans. I went to Barnes/Nobles and bought Carpenito. The thing I really like about it is that in the back - it lists the medical dx and then relates that to the nursing dx. It also has the NIC/NOC stuff in it. Quite a cool book and well worth the money. Please, new nursing students, realize that it takes all kinds in nursing. Most of us practicing RNs (not good grammar, sorry), are pleased that you will be joining us and welcome you with open arms. Don't listen to negative comments - they only pull YOU down. I'm already a nurse and I can tell you that you will likely never write a care plan again once you are out of school.

nclexhater - you are off the mark again here as are some of your other posts. Books and cards are very very helpful in getting you through writing the plans and getting you to think the way the schools and the people who write the boards want you to think. To tell someone to just think about it and write it out is pure folly and a sure way to flunk out of school. I really don't think you have a clue.
