Offered position, but unsure, Advice?

  1. Hi,

I am in need of some advice. I was offered a position at a prestigious hospital in a post-surgical unit. However, I would really like to work in either Peds/NICU or L&D. I only have a week left to decide, and the rest of the hospitals in my area won't begin interviewing new grads until April? ( I am graduating in June with a BSN).

I was hoping that someone would have some advice for me?

    Thanks so much

I was in a similar position when I graduated. I wanted to go into L&D, but I ended up going into the ICU because I really thought that I liked the hospital. I figured I could transfer to their L&D when a position opened up. Needless to say, the facility was not as I had expected. I left the ICU after 8 months to work elsewhere in L&D. It was the best decision I ever made, but I really don't regret taking the ICU position. Gave me a chance to hoan a lot of my clinical skills and slowly build my confidence.

Sorry I can't give you a definitive answer. Go with your gut...

If you like the hospital I would take the offered position. You can always transfer when a position opens up and by then, you'll have some valuable experience under your belt. Med-Surg experience is always very valuable no matter what sub-specialty you end up in in the future.
    Good luck.
