Nurses Career Support

Published

I graduated from nursing school this past June, took the boards July 28th, and then started orientation for my new job that very next Monday. I work on Urology, but it's pretty much a Med/Surg Floor in which we care for those who've had GI surgeries. I'm loving it because I'm learning so much and gaining confidence as a nurse, but I know that I'm not going to want to do this forever. I've always been thinking about nursing area I would like to end up working in. When I was in middle and the first part of high school, I was very certain I wanted to be a midwife. The last couple years of high school, I was leaning toward forensic nursing. While in college, I was thinking of becoming a school nurse or a CRNA. Now...I didn't realize how much I love computers until recently. I'm just nuts over "gagdets" like digital cameras, MP3 players, etc. and I love doing graphic art with computer programs, and I feel pretty good knowing how to help solve computer problems alongside my "computer monkey" friends.

I come from a small area where the only nursing opprotunities around are working at a 182 bed hospital, a few health clinics, or being a school nurse. I don't know much else aside from what I've read up on. I plan to move to larger city nearby (Portland, Ore.) within the nest couple years, but I just wondering if anyone knows of anyone who's had or has heard of a nursing profession that coincides with computer science?
