HELP!!!

I just got my booklist for fall semester. It is my fist semester of nursing school. I knew to expect a lot of money for books, but there is a mystery on my list. My school requires something called a "nursing bundle." I have no idea what this is but it costs $507.00:uhoh3:

I called the school bookstore and all they could tell me is that it is a BIG box of books. They coud not tell me the titles or any other details. I have emailed the nursing program, but I wanted to see if anyone else had this same type of requirement.

Thanks,

Crissy

My schools "mystery nursing bundle" consisted of everything we would need for skills in the lab. It had everything from enemas to IV's, foley kits, trach kits, all of the things we used in the skills lab.

We used it all through school, and thankfully the lab held onto it through the time. I would have hated to have to drag all that stuff around on top of all the books.

Hopefully it will be helpful to you!! Perhaps it is some "pocket" books, and other resource material.

Good luck with school!

Some of my books came in a bundle and cost less than they would if purchased seperately.

ear describes a nursing "kit"; hard to imagine it would cost over $500 but I guess anything's possible!

I wonder if the OP is talking about "bundled books"; that is, books that are bundled as a package for a lower total cost. For instance, a text that retails for $100 might be bundled with a study guide that costs $40 for a total cost of $120.

Or not ;)

Yeah, I got a skills lab kit--it was $300 and I havent used it yet-LOL! I probably will later. It has all kinds of supplies from needles to catheters. Pretty cool.

Maybe--but what book bundle costs $500 unless it is ALL the books for a semester or something--maybe it is all your reference books (PDR, dictionary, lab values, etc)? HM! It's a mystery, folks! ;)

They offered us a "Box". It is 6 books for Med/Surg. It was almost $300, but when I added up the prices for the books individually, I saved about $100.

Mosby's Diagnostic & Lab Test Reference (They had us buy one last semester too, and we NEVER used it, so hey...why not get another one from a different publisher! Uggghhh)

Med/Surg Nursing (Ignatavicius) hardcover

Study guide for above book. (When a study guide is 698 pages, it seems to LOSE it's value)

Prioritization, Delegation Assisgnment

Nutrition-A nursing approach

Critical Thinking in Med/Surg Settings-A case Study Approach (nothing but case studies--I like it!!)

And now I would like to thank my Mental Health teacher for only requiring one paperback book (although it was over $60).

We used the Iggy book (med surg); I liked it! A good text (or set of texts, depending on whether two volumes is in one book or two). The study guide, too, came with the set; I tried to use it but it was cumbersome. I didn't want to answer a pile of quizzes and worksheets. That lasted for one or two chapters, I think.

Also used the Nutrition book, but I should say we BOUGHT the nutrition book--I flipped through it to see if it was useful.....and never once used it :(

My nursing bundle cost $185 and it consist of 5 nursing books that I don't know the title or authors of so I can't even compare the prices to anything else The kit that we will use for lab is $150 and that is seperate from the nursing bundle The total cost for my books for the fall is over $690

I got my "nursing pac" it's all lab materials.

Thanks everyone for your help. I finally emailed the secretary for the nursing department and I got it figured out. The nursing bundle is all the required books for classes. The bookstore listed some of the books seperately, then the bundle with no explanation. I bought all the listed books, and then found out I have to buy 4 more books.AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!

Hey there :) My NUR100 class has "book bundle" and it costs $370 according to the bookstore. They still haven't gotten it in yet, and classes start on the 23rd. I always like to have my books atleast 2 weeks before class starts... and today is the 2 week point. But anyway, like missnina said I think it is just a "deal" (hahahaha!) they are cutting us by purchasing all of the books together, rather than seperately.

And, off topic, how disturing is this emoticon!? :trout:
