Nursing assistant

In Illinois do we have to be a certified nursing assistant? Or can you be a nursing assistant & get jobs?

Specializes in Emergency Nursing.

You are only required to be a CNA/STNA if you work in a Nursing Home/LTC facility. It's a federal program that was designed to prevent elder abuse.

Some hospitals may require one to be a CNA for inpatient floor duty.

Or (as I sometimes suspect), maybe they were just messing with me, for their own, unknown, reasons.

Specializes in DD, Mental Health, Geriatric.

Is an Adult Family Home considered a LTC (Long Term Care) facility?

In some assisted living facilities you do not have to be certified, but you will also not be identified as a CNA by the IDPH. It's like doing CNA work without getting credit for being a CNA, except not vital signs. The pay tends to be better though (in the facilities that I've seen).

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

Generally no, these are more like assisted living facilities.
