Who else is taking it ? I hear it's a beast of a class. Can anyone give some solid direction? I decided to take it with no other class because the consensus on here is that it's the hardest one offered.

I will be starting this class too. I am trying to enjoy my week off. I just finished vulnerable populations. I am hoping that this class is better, but I am sure it will not be.

I'll be starting the class too. I am looking for my books now. Do we need all of the books? Is the DVD helpful (if I rent, the DVD is not guaranteed)? What is the Nursing Bar-Chart Quick Study Series? I can't seem to find that specific one online. Thanks for the help!

Have no idea what the DVD is. I didn't use it. No, you don't need the Bar-Chart thing. Yes, you need the tools and the other books.
Are these the current books needed? I found a posted syllabus somewhere, not sure how up to date it is. REQUIRED TEXTBOOKS:Required reading/materials:1. Weber, J. & Kelley, J. (2010). Health assessment in nursing (4thed.). Philadelphia: Lippincott. *** Please note EBook does not have page numbers and previous students have preferred hardcopy due to the nature of assignments in the course***.2. Weber, J., Kelley, J., & Sprengel, A. (2010). Lab manual to accompany healthassessment in nursing (4th ed.). Philadelphia: Lippincott.3. Ackley, B.J. & Ladwig, G.B. (2014). Nursing diagnosis handbook: An evidence-based guide to planning care (10th ed.). St. Louis, MO: Mosby. ISBN 978-0-323-08549-64. Nursing Bar-Chart Quick Study Series. ISBN # 1-57222-174-7 50395.

You do need books #1, 2, 3. You don't need the Nursing Bar chart. At least, I never used it even once.

I bought the 9th edition. It's much cheaper.
I would imagine so.

I submitted my attestation form, and started working on the assignments. So far it is pretty much copy the book assessment, changing things into your own words with the assessment you did. Thankfully I have a house full of willing participants for the assessment. I think I would have been super confused if I had not read the thread on this board from past assessment students. Why do past students make things so clear, but the professors and coaches make things clear as mud?
I don't have access to the lecture yet which is annoying. Anyone else already working on this class?

I know what you mean. i would be lost at UTA as a whole w/o allnurses. Sounds like you are on the right track. Don't forget to include a 24-hour food recall anytime they ask for a diet (even though they do not specifically ask for it) and don't worry about redundancy; you will have many sections that are repeated. Just have the book by your side as you're writing up the obj parts and go through it line by line and don't skip anything. The video lectures help somewhat, but you can get started w/o them and use them later to fill in anything in your write-up that is incomplete. Don't forget to use the word, bilaterally, whenever you're discussing 2 of anything (arms, legs, eyes, etc). Yes, there is a lot of writing, which is the major downside to this class, but that is the only downside.
Oh yeah, and don't forget to use mmHg after your BP reading and BPM after your pulse reading. And to include the scale for pain and pulses (e.g. 10 point scale for pain and 3+/4+ for pulse).

Hello,
I will be in this class as well. So did I miss something in regards to the need for a otoscope? I have borrowed the books but this is the first I have heard about the other items...
I am curious because I have heard different advisor are harder than others but all tend to ensure you have the right information. Wish I knew if the one I was going to have was going to be tougher than the others or not... A little nervous.
I am getting started as well. This is going to be interesting. Hopefully our coaches will be fair. It's going to be a lot of writing. Just remember it is five weeks and we will be done. Good luck. Thanks everyone for the insight thus far. We can support each other through this class.
